Because they think his followers will become followers of MMA, and buy PPV's. It's ridiculous to have him on there. Might as well put Charles Barkley's ass on the post fight.

very good fun to note joe turning his back on that despicable fool at the end. haha!

what sport did this idiot come from, or is he some kind of jack-of-all trades anchor guy? absolute punk.

in baseball, if a batter totally fucks up, bottles it, misses everything, ok I can see how a commentator could shit on the guy. but this is a fight! he got caught early with a dirty shoulder, on the button.

fucking disrespect. he can do one. fuck that guy in the face and arse.

Well, actually .... he wasn't really wrong except for the "we didn't learn anything" about Conor in this fight.

His other points were valid.

Stephen A is brought in to stir the pot and cause controversy - that’s now ESPN tries to get their ratings ...

Pay no attention to Stephen A and stop supporting UFC/ESPN.

Stephen A Smith is such a unlikeable shit stirring asshole. Unreal that he is actually covering MMA. Other than NBA he knows shit about sports. I assume ESPN encourages his nonscence behind the scenes.

Teddy Atlas has a podcast (it's a good listen if your a boxing fan) and said on it he couldn't believe ESPN paired him with Stephen A Smith to break down fights a couple years ago. Before this espn plus app bullshit and Top Rank was having good fights on espn.Teddy said he knew nothing of boxing.

eventually smith is going to say some dumb shit that is going to piss off a fighter and he is going to get humbled real quick. it makes me think back to when they has snoop commentating TUF or whatever it was with faber and he was talking shit and calling fighters bitches. matt brown took exception and said he would smash snoop on sight . sooner or later smith is going to find himself in a similar predicament . the more mainstream this thing becomes the less and less it seems like it is even the same sport . i dont know who is making the decisions anymore or what the goal they are working towards is but it is like the fighting is secondary to the broadcast . at least with lorenzo and frank you knew what you were going to get. they did some dick moves themselves but they were fight fans with a passion for mma . these new clowns have zero passion for the sport and zero knowledge . they dont have any respect and they dont know the history. im starting to like ufc less and less and like other promotions more and more . espn is the reebok of mma broadcasting

Yeah, I actually think he’s worse when he talks about boxing. He seems to believe he knows something about boxing and he is beyond ignorant about the sport. It’s embarrassing.

He played mid-level college basketball.

I hate Stephen A more than just about anyone on earth, but he handled that fairly well. At least he done some homework before talking. It was nice to see Hogan call him out though.

The problem here, is that the opinion was coming from bias.
People actually thought Cerrone had a chance.
Many expected him to put up a fight.
They were emotionally vested, perhaps even financially vested.
But I said elsewhere, and it deemed true:
This was an MVP/Shinsho level mismatch, at this point in Cowboys career.
Cowboy is 60 fights deep man, coming off some KO's.
He's fighting PRIME Conor McGregor.
This isn't WEC Cowboy.
This is washed up Cowboy, still capable of mid-tier level success, but with his best days far behind him.
Mismatch by design, at the expense of a legendary now-pioneer.

It was MVP/Shinsho in regards to skill.
It was even more like Bader/Fedor in regards to accomplishment/record vs. physical capacity and likelyhood.

The only hope from my end was that Cerronne would get paid mightily, and hang them up with a devastating loss.
Neither of those things happened.

You take your Galveston getaway yet?
Just got settled in the room. We drove down today. I’m tired. I think I’m getting old. Also, there are way more people here than I’m used to. Guess it’s the holiday tomorrow. We didn’t count on that.

Everything about Stephen A Smith people are saying is completely true, and yet he is also completely right about this fight.

You'll have to get over it. Cowboy leaves a strong legacy of being a high-level gatekeeper (this not the insult people thinm - a gatekeeper is not a journeyman), but we have to accept that his performances in big fights have been pretty awful. And that's why he was brought in.
