Women’s flyweight fighter Roxanne Modafferi turned out to be the biggest betting underdog at UFC 246. Ahead of her preliminary fight against the undefeated Maycee Barber, the 37-year-old MMA veteran had the odds stacked against her, 10-1.

“The Happy Warrior” did prove oddmakers wrong in their assessment of her when she defeated Barber. But according to her, she was also lauded by fans who put money on her. One of them even paid her $100 for the win.

“One of my fans messaged me on social media that he bet $1,000 on me. So, cool. Enjoy that,” she told ESPN’s Brett Okamoto in a post-fight interview. “One of my fans actually PayPal-ed me $100 after I won,…

Oddsmakers used to get things right. What happened?
they are a lot better than they used to be when Big betting sites first started taking MMA bets
that was easy money for awhile

This was the saddest part about MMA becoming mainstream. There was a lot of free money to be had.

so true

I double and almost tripled my money for about 3 years, I knew the fighters as well or better than the oddsmakers.

Now they are much more savvy and have some real knowledgable guys setting the odds...and I have stopped following the sport as heavily so I no longer fancy my self a winner as far as MMA gambling.

I only gamble small amounts nowadays.

I remember rampage was a +300 against Chuck Liddell in their first fight the week before the fight.

I also remember that Royce versus Matt Hughes was really tight on the odds until the very last day.

There was a period where the combination of bad odds making plus a ton of casual interest putting money the wrong direction could really set you up for some great odds.

page chuck 1 was before I was betting heavy MMA...interesting to hear those odds.

Royce hughes lol...that was bad.

I miss the soft odds days. Lot of good lines came when guys switched organizations...pride to ufc...strikeforce to ufc...wec to ufc...etc...that is where I felt most comfortable finding good bets.

I used to bet a lot on fights/sports...stopped when the wins didn't feel good enough to outweigh the hurt of the losses...even if ahead for the year.
