At least to me it seems like he is just trying to sell the rematch and justify it to those fans who only watch his fights

"Conor's been one of the best jiu-jitsu guys that I've ever rolled with, like MMA-wise, since I started training with him. His jiu-jitsu is on another level, and it always has been. I think people just underestimate him for some reason." - Dillon Danis

He's evolving his bank account...and on that note, he should be charging Khabib interest now that his is up.

I think everyone would agree Justin deserves the next shot over Conor, and hardcore fans would prefer to see Gaethje vs the winner, but can you really blame WME/UFC to put him back in a title fight as quickly as possible? I mean, I am actually impressed that they didn’t give him an immediate rematch.
but only if those are the only two options, I personally don't think beating Vick, Barboza and Cerrone is worthy of a title shot at this stage in their careers. Barboza is dropping down a division because he keeps losing, Vick just keeps losing regardless of the weight class, and Cerrone put up no fight whatsoever.

I think Conor has a strong belief in himself which is what propelled him to hold two UFC belts at the same time. It's not so much delusion as it is positive thinking.

I personally prefer this to guys that you know have already lost in their head before they even fight.

He fought twice at 170 after winning the 145 belt (and even lost one of em) then fought for the title at 155

belief is one thing, manufactured achievements with help from the UFC is another.

I give him credit. He always fought even with last minute opponent replacements.

He won the fights but it's a lot easier to achieve things in the UFC if you don't have to go on a long winning streak first, or even compete in the division you're getting a title shot in. I think what bugs me most about it was his comments in the post fight interview after beating Cerrone, he implied that anyone else that had won belts in two weight classes since he did it had been given it by the UFC.
