UFC 246 seems to have left a lasting argument in its wake. For many during the lead up, the main event between Conor McGregor and Donald Cerrone had the look and feel of a tune-up. A notable name matchup for McGregor, that nonetheless presented a perfect compliment to his fast-starting, power-punching style.

And that’s more or less how the fight itself played out—with McGregor starching ‘Cowboy’ in the opening minute of the bout. However, it was a result that, even for fans and pundits that may have seen it coming, felt somewhat anti-climactic. And has brought some notable backlash with it.

Nate Diaz gave his thoughts on the fight.

I will never understand this logic. Cerrone lasted three times as long as Jose Aldo (who held a belt at the time) and no one ever questioned Aldo. Cerrone is a warrior and has been through too many wars; thats all it was.

Diaz is saying it was squash match when it was booked.

SAS is saying Cowboy wilted under the pressure and folded like a cheap tent.

Diaz is right, SAS is wrong.

Nate's brain is so underdeveloped that it shutting off isn't even an option for him. He can't fold under pressure, therefore Cowboy's a bitch. Stockton wut.

Nate should be angling for a squash match to set up the 3rd fight...what's Edson Barboza up to?
highly unlikely, Nate's been either get what he wants or fuck off

especially for someone like Barboza

it's just short-sighted. he needs to bring something new to the narrative for a 3rd fight...maybe fight Cowboy and sub him in the first round.
