Hard to win a fight when you back up the last half of the fight.. round 3 ws a toss up..had Reyes actually pressured jbj any of the 4th or 5th he might've won.. recency bias is real.. You gotta beat the champion out right.. hard to say jones lost that fight when he clearly won the last 2 and possibly the 3rd..Reyes gas tank was low after the first 10 minutes of pressure.. regardless he didn't nothing but make his stock rise and should get a rematch.. that was a tale of 2 fights in 1.. and when you have a close fight and lost the last half it's hard to take the belt that way.. with the striking be that close those 3 takedowns and octagon control were the difference as much as they didn't lead to damage it still was 1 of the facets jon won along with the cage control and damage on reyes face even though it wasn't significant..Reyes won the boxing portion..jbj out kicked him and controlled the center the last 13 minutes..
how does Reyes lose the 3rd? It definitely wasn’t a toss up. Reyes landed bigger strikes regardless if he’s backing up.

Ultimately, people are whining about a fight where a guy did well in the first round but gassed himself out and clearly started to get beaten up as the fight progressed. Reyes threw everything he had at Jones, and it wasn't enough.

He lost that fight under the actual scoring system, but he also lost it under any sensible subjective assessment of how the fight played out. Under Pride scoring, Jones easily won that fight too.

It's just a strange hill to die on.

I have actually read the scoring criteria, which in and of itself makes my opinion more valid than 98% of the dipshits shrieking about this decision.

I'd have to rewatch round 3 before defending to the death that Jones won it. But Jones won rounds 2, 4 and 5.

Why do all of your posts sound like you have invisible lat syndrome?

Scoring is based on effective striking/grappling. If that is equal then you look to octogan control.

You like to shriek that you know the rules, but you make yourself look like an imbecile, because it's clear as day that you havent the slightest fucking clue.

LOL at this unhinged strawmanning. When did I ever say I was scoring the rounds for Jones based on control?

Juicy J won. You'll just have to learn to cope with that.

I rewatched the fight. Reyes did edge round 3. I was wrong about that. Very marginal though. Jones still won rounds 2,4 and 5 though. Round 2 was close, and Reyes did land and have Jones' backing up, but a lot of Reyes's shots were also missing or getting blocked, while Jones landed some really clean, crisp strikes.

The commentary overall was pretty shithouse, with Rogan screaming about blocked shots like he always moronically does and all commentators at times calling an exchange in favor of the guy who came off worse. I think the Rogan 'Oh!' when it's misplaced can really manufacture delusional thinking about fights, because it often punctuates moments as being meaningful that in no way deserve it and that sticks in people's minds.

I also didn't realize that the incompetent fucks in Texas don't use unified scoring, so Jones moving forward does actually matter. But I don't think it changes anything. I think the rounds still play out the same using either criteria, it just makes Jones' surge in rounds 4 and 5 even more emphatic.

I will say one thing:

In the past I always rooted for Jon

this time I was hoping he would get hammered and watched from a different perspective, that of hoping he would get murdered......i

I have to give him credit as he took some legit shots that I thought would at least make him wobbly and cover up to freshen up on the ground.........not even close to getting hurt enough to have to fight off any groggy cobwebs

he’s got one hell of a chin and has my vote for greatest of all time. He stalked Reyes down after tasting some good ole fists, shins, elbows and leg kicks and just kept on coming.......hats off to him and I don’t see anyone even getting lucky and beating him

People love to hate Jon Jones.

He's been in trouble outside the Octagon.

He's destroyed a lot of people's heroes.

He's black (anyone who says this isn't part of it is full of shit).

But an objective look at the fight will tell you that the only round Reyes convincingly won is round 1.

I think Reyes edged him out but whatever...it was a good, edge-of-your-seat fight which is about all you can ask for.

I'm no Joes fan by any stretch, but I'll give credit where it's due. He can take punishment. He keeps his cool no matter what. He's got a lot of heart in there.

That being said, with age and years of substance abuse, he's losing his ability. He's nowhere near as unstoppable as he once was.

In his last two fights he's looked very beatable. I will admit that.
