sparkuri @sparkuri
seeds don't need nutrients...the seed has the power to get the plant started
can always add nutrients

my lady has amazing success with a nice simple potting soil

your lights are also part of the equation...t5? t8?

and that watermelon start doesn't need to be in such a large container yet IMO

Rinse and dig that shit (seaweed&kelp) in much earlier in the season though.

Fuck all the crazy extras.

If your location allows it weather wise, set up a greenhouse. I fertilize with some bought sea soil, yard generated compost, and ground antler mix

We live in the middle of the city on a city lot and we still produce an abundance of food and weed.

A greenhouse, a few large raised beds and some container patio gardening can have you enjoying your efforts all year around.

I just ran out of last seasons weed.... well, I didnt run out completely, but all the good stuff.

Our garlic is self sustaining and keeps us supplied all year.
I was gonna build a greenhouse, but it's daunting right now.
Idk, I've been doing a lot; I bought the plastic vapor barrier.
I was thinking about snatching some more construction site wood.
I think I need to build a shed too.

I think my issue was lighting Rambo John J @Inside Job .
I went out yesterday morning and snatched some new fixtures.
Everything was leggy, so I looked up kelvins and lumens being an issue.
Built this setup yesterday, I'd been transferring everything outside to harden, but from what I understand it was too soon being before true leaves.

Just planted 2 watermelon plants, 2 cantaloupe plants, 6 super hot pepper plants, and 2 suspect bell pepper plants. Rest of the garden goes in on Monday.

I did the exact same.
2 watermelon(25#sweet), 2 cantaloupe, 6 peppers(2 Cayenne, 2 banann, 2 jalapeno) & bell peppers.
Everything died, but the peppers, re-starting...boxes are done.

Nice! We will do tomatoes and herbs on monday. Then late fall probably garlic and onions and some other things. We are very excited for the melons for our son this summer.

Fucking crazy wind here today with gusts up to 30 mph. Lemons don't do terribly well with wind and this one was very recently transplanted so I had to improvise at the last minute:

If anyone knows of something more permanent that would be easy to take down/put back up and is transparent, your help is appreciated. Of course I am going to take the plant down if there's a hurricane but it's too heavy to take down for just a windy day.

That's fucking ingenuity in action right there folks. Take notes.

Hot gardening tip of the day:

If you are growing a fruit tree (esp. citrus) that has an exposed bark, avoid sunburn by painting the exposed part with a 1-1 white latex paint/water mix. Just don't use enamel or oil-based shit.

@Lars told me some proud story yesterday about how all the Macintosh apples in the world come from one tree in Ontario.

Lars: (tells story)

Me: Yeah that sounds pretty normal. Cloning fruit trees is the most common way to propagate them.

Lars: So wait, we're not special?

Me: Afraid not, goof.

Garden and greenhouse are filling up quick. Garlic, carrots, couple types of peas, yellow and green zucchini, spaghetti squash, kale, lettuce, jalapeño & red cherry peppers and a bunch o herbs.

Some clones on order. Will keep the clones in the green house until the garlic is pulled and then fill that bed with the grass. Going to also try one or two in large planters both inside and outside the green house.

How big is the greenhouse?
