I've contemplated putting up some 6x6 posts and stretching out a big shade cloth. The posts could also be used for catfish skinning.
Yep that is how to do it.

quality shade cloth has very strong edges and heavy duty grommets

I used work for a company that had a nursery and I grabbed a couple of them when the business went bust...I use them each summer and they have lasted like 4 -5 years so far...probably like a hundred bucks or so for a big one

You need shade cloth man.

Comes in different grades that only let in certain amounts of sunlight.

Not cheap but will last multiple seasons and might open up the options and extend the growing season...plus much easier to do gardening under in the summer sun.
Yeah, that’s been something I’ve looked at. I kind of want to build a bigger mater bed anyway, but this may also be part of the plan

I assume this is pretty much the same thing as a shade sail? Lots of people here use those in their yards or patios, or by the pool, or over playgrounds etc.

My set up would be a little awkward (which is why I haven’t done it yet), but I want one over my driveway. having a South facing house/driveway suuuuuuucks this time of year. I think it’d actually make my garage more pleasant too. When you stand at the end of my garage all you feel is the radiating oven effect from the driveway. A little shade would be nice over the cars.

There are many different brands, but you usually get a step up in durability when you step up in price...more expensive stuff is what I would buy...you can get custom size if needed, although there are lots of pre made sizes available...and different % of light gets thru depending on cloth.

can't vouch for a specific brand because I haven't looked at current shadecloth

read reviews etc...

Could be great for backdoor or front yard areas to add comfort on hot days
As you know the midsummer direct sun can fry some plants and even humans

I attach it to my house and run it out to a fence midway thru my yard that has Tposts holding it up.
Makes our backyard patio pleasant when it gets over 90 here.

The peppers love the heat, pisses them off more. The tomatoes on the other hand absolutely hate how hot it gets here. Sure my tomatoes plants are 6 feet tall, but they look like shit. We no shit have to grow them under a tree.

It appears you already have a frame for the tomato plants. Can't you just get one of those mesh screens to drape over the top?

Edit: I responded before seeing Rambo John J @Rambo John J's comments. I'm saying the same thing as he is.

Nice
If those are cucumbers, I have a nice little method I have been using for them.
A bent 16 foot 6" by 4" opening cattle fence panel(or sheep panel 4"x 4") makes a nice U shaped 7-6 foot tall arch over the bed to train them on...Gets them up off the ground and is pretty sweet plus looks kinda cool

If melons I am a rookie, not sure if the melons will break from the vine if unsupported and on the "arch".

Should have trimmed off the under foliage like I mentioned. Clearly needed more airflow between and under them.

Doesn't matter. We've done that in years past, once it gets over 100 they don't like it. Shade is the only thing that works.

Papi Chingon @Papi Chingon it would appear my efforts to lower the soil pH of my potted miracle fruit tree are paying dividends. The tree was relatively dormant after only 1 of the 4 flowers successfully pollinated (I have to hand pollinate because my porch is screened in), but this morning I went to check on my one tiny fruit and what I thought was one flower. I found 5 more flowers, with 2 or 3 more about to open

I have the new pot ready (top right background) but will likely wait to see how many of these flowers actually turn into fruit. It'll give me time to amend the new soil with vermicompost.

Small fruit is in bottom right photo, above the flower. It'll ripen in about two weeks.

Nice. What method did you use to address the ph?

Aluminum sulfate as a top soil dress. I also mixed distilled vinegar with the water I used to water the tree.

FTR I don't know if the pH has been lowered yet and am not going to test it for another week or so, but the tree is pushing out more flowers so I assume the pH is lower.

The DC XL Venus fly trap I ordered my wife arrived this evening. I've been referring to it as her penis fly trap, she's a lucky lady.

Just picked up 15 gallons of distilled water for our carnivorous plants. Our yellow trumpets seem to do so so on hose water but I figured why not give them what they actually want.

I bought distilled water from Walmart recently. Shit is supposed to have a neutral pH of 7.0, but when I tested the water is was like 6.25. I was fucking pissed

Just gave the ladies their first taste of worm casting tea. I was going to brew it for 48 hours, but the soil was too dry to wait another day.
