I'll take a helicopter crash or getting my head blown off by some goon yelling "Allah Snackbar", but fuck drowning or suffocating to death...

So basically what you're saying is you wouldn't take a helicopter crash or getting your head blown off (it's much more likely you would lose limbs, most of them are terrible shots). In a thread about Marines dying, please don't be so disrespectful to think you could or would do what these men did.

Dude what the fuck are you talking about? You've gone full-retard over the last few days and you need help. How in the hell is anything I've put in this thread disrespectful? I made this thread out of sadness for our fallen Marines and I believe 1 Sailor. You've been totally cool with me since you came back and within the last couple weeks you've gone bi-polar and come at me with unhinged and seething bullshit. Maybe you should leave again and this time not come back?

To see someone who has no interest in actually doing what these men did, say that they'd take a helicopter or getting their head blown off over drowning in an AAV is just flat out disrespectful. I'm really not surprised you don't get it though.

I don't know if people know this, and I'm not quoting stats here, but submarines only usually sit around 30ft deep iirc. So when something is hundreds of feet deep I'd imagine recovery becomes a nightmare.
You can send tech divers down that low. I don't know anything about these vehicles, as to whether they are water tight at that depth.

Google says they weigh 29.1 t (64,000 lb)
That's twice an aircraft carriers anchor

There are large ship cranes that could lift that.

You could also displace 64000 lbs of water = 29000 kilo = 29000 liters of water with an air bag to raise it.

states they took on water, so its probably full...
Shortly after taking on water the vehicle β€œrapidly sank” with all 16 service members still onboard, the document reveals.

The number aboard was not maximum capacity, but still a tight fit, according to Tagen Schmidt, a veteran AAV crewman who survived a fiery AAV accident in 2017.

β€œWith all the gear and personnel you would definitely be rubbing shoulders with the person next to you it would be a very tight fit,” Schmidt said.
Seems they assume death given details and time:

Terrible.

I just remember all the submarine weirdos never looked forward to a part in training where they were gonna have to emerge in some chamber and rose to the top. 30ft seems like fuck all now I think about it,. Apparently if you don't breathe right your lungs will snuff it.

Shame the Portland gayboy can't chime in. I dunno what happened on this boat but RIP to those onboard

30 ft is no joke if you haven't done it.
We do emergency ascents diving at 60 ft. One long slow exhale.
When you are down at 30ft = 10m or so, your lungs are holding two lungs of air compressed at surface pressure.
So if you just go up holding your breath, that one lung expands to two lungs volume. Results in barotrauma.
So it's important to go out, even at that depth, slowly blowing bubbles so you dont hurt your lungs

sounds like they need to redesign that vehicle to be easier to escape in this sort of situation.
