You have a fly rod? If not tie on a flat fish or Panther Martin lure and cast it out from your boat then just troll around or drift in your boat and cast and retrieve, that's more enjoyable I find. . Get it pretty deep this time of year, trout will bite for sure.

Even casting from shore those work great. Here's how both should generally be setup on your line.

Swivel keeps your line from getting twisted up on your reel.

If you want something super basic for take your little girl to enjoy try this from shore or dock. Floating rig

If you don't get a bite within 20 minutes pull it in and make the distance from Bob to lure longer and go again, rinse repeat.

If fish aren't coming up for the last one I posted try this setup, sinking rig.

Don't get too caught in using exact split shots. Just use what it take to get it to the bottom then be sure to use floating bait like Power Bait or marshmallows. Very easy and effective.

Some will be little nuggets ready to use and some will be like putty you ball up yourself. Both are good.
I don’t have a fly rod yet. I think I’ll buy one off season and start learning next spring.

I like the trolling idea. I was doing that with the lure I posted earlier and just kayaking slowly along the weedy shore. It was smoking hot out (about 30 degrees) I saw some good size fish jumping but I had no luck.

I’m such a rookie I was putting the spilt shot above the bobber on my worm/bobber set up. I was pretty much just using it to get extra distance on my casts.

Right idea on the split shot just wrong location. I still think you're an idiot though.

I have this rod and I'm very happy with it. The length and weight will do small fish like perch and bass as well as big trout 10+ lbs. This is all you need to start fly fishing with the exception of the flies.

I just bought a cheap little sonar too off Amazon. Friend says it works great and has all the basic info you need like depth, temp and potential fish. Only $60! If I had a lame ass kayak I'd have one of these on every time. Handheld screen with a 25' tether to a little bobber and sonar attached. I use a carabiner clip to hook it close to my belly boat.

You have a “belly boat”, I’d have an “abs boat”.

Welp, no pictures today. Worst night of fishing ever.
Wife got snagged her first like 5 or 6 casts.
We move spots, get set up, another boat starts yelling for help.
We go over, we tow them to their house.
We go fish around the corner.
Moon never comes out, light bar hasn't come in yet, and our rear navigation light is on the bottom of the lake somewhere.
Blind trip a few miles back to the boat ramp, got blinded by some assholes with a spot light who we initially thought was the warden, was not.
Get back to over by the boat ramp, get ready to fish for crappie, gun shots. Wife says fuck this, let's just go home.
As I'm walking to the truck, spot light boat comes back shining the spot light on me and my wife still in the boat.
Hey the boat loaded up, the spot light boat is still around, I hear them talking. Straight up hammered and can't find the ramp I just pulled my boat out of.

We will try again Monday morning.

Crazy shit.
I don't ever go on the river without packing. There's some nutty fucking people out there.

And being out on a lake/river with no light and no help from the moon can definitely be a challenge. Haha.

Sex Chicken @Rob Ford’s Crack Pipe here are 2 different riggings I use.

The ned rig. You use a mushroom head jig and then specific ned rig plastics. They are more buoyant so they stand up and float on the bottom. Supposed to be good for bass, crappie, catfish during the warmer months.

I don't know what this rig is called, but we use it for catfish and sometimes get bass with it. I like to run live shad or cut bait on it.
