Best wishes to Ortega, but I feel we saw the best version we’ve ever seen of him vs the worst version we’ve ever seen of Jung. I don’t think this scenario would have played out this way in the past, but I have a feeling Father Time would ensure the same result would play out moving forward.

Zombie and his team made a mistake of focusing only on the older version of Ortega. 2 years is a long time to get all your shit in order, Zpmbie should have been aware of this since he went through it.

Zombie looked beefed up more than ever, too strong for even Ortega to implement his ground skills but great job Ortega. The striking was spectacular, especially the spinning elbow.

Zombie was ok until the spin elbow and whatever chance he had was blown away from the
Cut in his eye by Ortega’s headbutt.

I think Ortega could beat Volk.

I hope Zombie don’t retire, if have a win over Holloway, Zabit, or Yair could gret himself back in the title picture again

there wasn't as much for TKZ to improve, IMO. He's made a huge leap forward, and now the progress is incremental...I think this fight was a plateau for TKZ. Brian just had his huge leap forward, and he's younger so there's more time for incremental improvement.

I think that a big part of Volk's striking is the opponent's TD defense. I don't think that will be a concern for Brian, but I don't think his striking is ready to toe-to-toe with Volk. Brian is finally fighting 'tall' and feinting more, but his head movement is too much neck and not enough hips. I have no idea what his ceiling is like, but his next fight should give an indication of the rate of improvement he can sustain.

i agree with most of what you're saying except I don't think TKZ hit his plateau.

I think there were too many different factors that went into this fight for the zombie

Most of his coaches weren't there... it was only Eddie Cha (striking coach) and couple sparring partners that flew to Korea to train him there. When they arrived in Korea, they had to do mandatory 2 weeks quarantine so they've only had 6 weeks to really train, granted they were preparing for Ortega before and that's another factor. They were focused on the old version of Ortega while Ortega was pretty much building his new team from scratch that added strength and conditioning and an actual striking coach.

Zombie was missing his entire coaches, sure Rener couldn't make it either but other than mental aspect of things, Ortega could do without his jujitsu coach. And yea.. Zombie did have his striking coach but like I've said, they were focused on the old version of Ortega, which primarily their striking had to do with defending the Ortega's takedowns (which i believe Zombie did really well in that department).

they have also added 6 pounds of muscle on him, Zombie almost looked fishy, like he was so jacked. My friends and I were thinking he was roiding but besides, I believe that made him slower and timing was definitely off.

Zombie also had his vision fixed from before... and this might sound little weird but I think Zombie was better fighting with double vision because he was so used to being like that.

But more than anything, something was off about Zombie for sure. His footwork wasn't the same and he even admitted that he made a big mistake of chasing down a south paw during one of the exchange which he got clipped with that elbow. This is true because he even made this video few months back on how to properly use a spinning attack (sorry it's in korean) which he went against his own words

Zombie's head is not in a right place, he came out in some Korean TV show and opened up about how he's scared of how to feed his family after his MMA career is over, so he was actually making ton of appearance during that time between Edgar fight and Ortega's training camp.

Not making any excuse for Zombie, Ortega looked really amazing and I see good future for this new version of him but I don't think the Zombie we saw on saturday night was the real zombie. He needed this loss to realize he shouldn't have fucked around with stupid TV shows. I'd give him one more chance, hopefully they can book Holloway cuz Zombie always wanted to fight him and whatever happens in that fight or his next fight should tell if Zombie is really done or not

Not gonna lie
I lost about 150$ on those two main events

Gained it back and then some on NFL though

NFL easy in 2020...MMA not so easy
