The FBI has had the laptop drive for a year
The computer guy has the drive
Giuliani has the drive
New York Post has the drive
Steve Bannon has a drive
A reporter at OAN states that approximately 30 people in the media have copies of the drive, them being one of them.
The first group is repeated and confirmed by each other, The last is unconfirmed but I'm putting it out there because they are another so-called media source. they either have a copy or they want everybody to have a copy and their buddy buddy with both man and Giuliani.
So all these people have a copy of a hard drive that supposedly has pictures of Hunter Biden having sex with children.
And nobody leaks it? Nobody even writes a story seeing it.
New York Post is pseudo tabloid. OAN is complete tabloid.
They have zero reason to sit on this. They love Trump and they hate Biden.
If you don't get leaked pictures, even redacted, it's because they don't exist.
But let's go back to the original. Why would Giuliani put a false statement out there? Because there are absolutely no repercussions.
He has worked by implication for years now. He doesn't actually say anything he says he saw what "appears" to be underage girls and it disturbed him so he turned it over to the Delaware police.
The point is to put this out in the national Psyche and repeat it on Twitter and blogs until it's "true".
When nothing comes of it there will be zero blowback for Giuliani. None. He will not "fuck himself".

How long did they have it before it got turned over? Do we know that?

That's also a really poor conclusion. A lawsuit highlights this. If it's fake a lawsuit makes it stronger.
beyond that it's not clear to me that there's room for a lawsuit. Again everything is being done by implication. You can't make a lawsuit over anonymous sources "appears to be". This is the same way that tabloids get away with writing about bat boy and what not.
