i was already sitting, when a female sat down next to me. she had on nice perfume.
this is uncommon during the day. chinese normally dont do that.
so to encourage her, i wanted to tell her she smelled nice, but saying it in chinese would draw too much attention.
so i switch to my translation app and typed it out on my phone.
just as i get her attention and show her the text
the smell of rotten eggs lingers in the air, someone had farted.
she reads the text, stiffens ups and avoids all eye contact
she got off at the next stop

I've never been to China but I have seen a very thorough documentary about it called "Big trouble in Little China" so I think I got the gist of it.Brr, it's 46 f and all the windows are open because they believe fresh air is more important than keeping warm. Also note there is no indoor heating in s.e. asia.
