the only reason we started doing it was WW1. War ended, why keep up that one thing?

i mean, we kicked women back out of the workforce, why didn't we kick the National Anthem out of baseball (sports)?

It wasn't started during WW1.

You keep doing it because it promotes national unity.
wrong.

and

wrong.

"The song is about a battle in the War of 1812. The first documented time that it was played at an American sporting event came at a baseball game in 1862, during the Civil War. The tradition of playing it at sports events got a dramatic boost at the 1918 World Series, during World War I. And the tradition of playing it before games was popularized during World War II."

It says there they started in 1862 during the civil war. I'm fairly confident that isn't World War I.

the first time it happened isn't necessarily the start of the tradition...it's more like when you start doing it at every opportunity

Like they did during WWII according to your post?
yes, during WW1 they started doing it when it was available.
basically, if a band was there they played Star-Spangled Banner - starting at the 1918 World Series.

I've always thought it was weird in sports unless they're actually representing a nation like in the Olympics or World Cup.

But with so many european cats in the NBA or all of the latin dudes in MLB it's a touch odd to only play the US anthem.

Please stop. Your own post acknowledges that it didn't start during or become tradition during WW1.

One time I got suspended for not standing at a mandatory high school football prep rally. I was like "you can force me to be here, but you cannot force me to participate." Got 2 weeks in school suspension. Told my mom, and she called them up and chewed them a new asshole, threatened to pull me out of school and sue them. The suspension was dropped.
