in all seriousness, this happens so rarely that some people go out with the attitude of “I’ll be careful and and It’ll be ok” mentality. And then when it’s too late they realize their in water taller than their boots.
doesn’t really matter the scenario - flash floods, low water crossings, snow, ice, etc people always get hurt or die in bad weather events. Often doing things non-essential. It’s just rare, so people don’t know better and go too far.

I mean, I’m sure it does. It’s just rare here, so people have less experience than some others might have in other locations. We get an event like this every 4-8 years or something like that. While in your area people would be at least somewhat more accustomed with it.

I’ve been here since 2001, and I can only think of a couple of times where it’s been down in the teens. And that’s usually only at night, and for like two days. This is the biggest string of winter weather I think I’ve seen since being here. Never seen one stretch on as long as this is expected to.
normal tx winter is like two mildly cold days/nights, and then back up into the 60s/70s for a week. With rain of course.

people literally die here every flood or severe weather event. Without fail. In 2013 and 2015 there were two big floods on then nearby river which has low water crossings and bridges that got submerged. No matter how much they blast it on the news, people still go for it. Both of those floods, multiple people died trying to get across a bridge or crossing. This is within a mile or two from my house.
