Over the past 5 years or so, the systolic number in my blood pressure has been creeping upward. All of my life, my BP had always been around 122/74. Sometimes it was 119/72 or 123/70 or something like that. The past five years, the bottom number has remained constant while the top number has crept upward. 122/74, then 124/74, then 128/74 and last July it was 132/71.

I have made this thread because I made two and only two changes to my food intake and one supplement change. No change in weight or in exercise. The same doctor has taken my BP. I know it’s hard to use my N=1 and so on, but since November of 2020, I have had my BP measured three times and the top number has been 113, then 112, then 113. Bottom number unchanged.

I’m excited and happy. I’m making this thread just in case this might help someone. The doctors of the forum probably hate this kind of thing and I get it.

Here are the three changes: I started eating the hell out of garlic, both sautéed with onion in my expensive olive oil and also chopped up raw. I eat quite a bit daily. I ate close to none before. Second, I started eating lots of beets. Raw, chopped up. No exact measurement, just a good hunk daily, chopped up and added to my bland dinners. I eat the beet greens that are part of the stalk, too. Finally, I started taking the expensive form of CoQ-10. My doctor tells me that CoQ-10 is almost certainly a waste of my money, but I’m in charge of my health and this is what I’m doing.

I have no idea if this will last, but it has now been over a quarter of a year and my BP is the best of my adult life and possibly my entire life.

I hope this might help someone. If not, fuck off. Texas CRUSHED the winter weather with ease and has retained it ruggedly individualistic identity.

All I got from that was that you have been swallowing a lot of CoQ recently :)

Regarding garlic, unfortunately in spite of any health benefits it does three things for me. It makes my sweat stink, makes my farts stink, and makes me fart like I'm some sort of wind generator. Any benefit I might gain health wise would therefore be outweighed by becoming a social leper, no-one would want to be near me.

beets, garlic, and coq10 have evidence for BP improvement. Particularly the systolic piece. Effects are not major but they might all add up. Coq10 the least evidence but also often the most expensive, so consider cost/benefit in your choices.

There are reasons to increase your omega 3s like youve done with the EVOO.

A significant portion of many peoples blood pressure is familial and all the work and exercise and food in the world might not change it later on. So you're right, it might not last. But you've done the right thing. Pay the farmer before you pay the doctor. Buy as many healthy non medicated years as you can and if your kidney hormones betray you at 50+ despite all these interventions, just be honest with the reality and go get it managed to avoid the silent killer.

Not even a little. I wish all my patients took the same approach.
Just don't be in denial if your BP is too high or resistant.

No change in weight or in exercise.
If you're a healthy weight and performing regular resistance and cardio, no change needed. If not, start that too. You might never need a doctor for blood pressure.

I’m the guy who often thinks he can figure his way out of most anything, so this is particularly great advice.

How do you know if your blood pressure is high? Are there symptoms?

Literally ever thread you try to draw the attention to you.

It's embarrassing honestly. Stop it.
Bro you can just move along and not get your jimmies all rustled
That would be healthier for your heart

MMAP is eating garlic man and it may be helping him...lil while back you told me garlic was bullshit and I was gonna get somebody hurt with my advice

LMAO dude just let it go

Stop being a loser and start popping xanax every day

Sound advice

When I feel a slight headache or disruption I just pop open a Co drydamol.

Works everytime.

The other day I had a bastard behind the eyes and felt hot.

Thought I may have been the one percenter who got the covid agin.

Double dropped the Co and I was fine.

Science.

Were you watching Tottenham at the time? I've noticed it induces a chronic bout of laughter when I see them play. Perhaps there's a pattern.

It’s considered a silent killer as far as I know, but maybe Splinty @Splinty has info on that.

silent if it's only a little high and going to hurt you over the course of years. People with very high blood pressure sometimes have symptoms of chest pain shortness of breath headaches or generalized symptoms of not feeling well

I had high blood pressure too. But it turned out I had white jacket syndrome,

It took a friendly doc to actually take a look at me and say it’s unlikely you have high blood pressure. He gave me some breathing exercises and just generally relaxed me.

Turned out I was apprehensive of tests.

this talliEd. And sure enough I was fine. And I’m not a nervous person.
