Looking at per week covid positive cases is a useless analysis. Who cares about testing positive, it is the deaths that should be reviewed. If you look at per capita numbers, which takes the population out of the equation for analysis, the two highest states for deaths are New Jersey 288 deaths per 100,000 people, New York 267. Illinois, where I live, is another lockdown state and it’s deaths per capita are 192. California was a lock down state with a death toll of 157. Florida is 164 and Texas is 174 And they have done a great job of trying to keep business flowing. Unlike the liberal lockdown states that have quite literally put people out of business. So I guess Desantis is doing a pretty great job, unlike the dumb ass governors of New York, Illinois and New Jersey, who just happen to be democrats, not to make this at all political.

Shit is over.
And some of these Governors hate it because they'll have to go back to being ignored.

Good on DeSantis for having a brain.

Ohio Gov keeps moving the goalposts. Now he's looking for a certain percentage of Ohioans getting vaccinated before lifting all regulations. He didn't name the amount. But nobody is getting the vaccine anymore because nobody is getting the virus.

Ohio has a new-case 7 day average of 85. Out of 11.7 million people. That's basically ZERO. It's gone. So fuck off to your little hole and let the state get back to normal you fucking shit-stain.

We long left the discussion of reality and then debating what to do about it. Individuality vs public health and obligation, government's role in daily life, etc are all well seasoned and historical debates with merits on nearly all sides. There are pros and cons of various interventions or removal of interventions. Both harm and benefit will occur in both directions with a shift in who bears the burden.

But we aren't there. We are still arguing whether there's even a pandemic, whether 600,000 dead Americans is really a big deal, and crazy stuff like 5G Bill Gates microchips getting a seat at the adult table. We can't even get to the conversation about what to do about it because we can't agree on reality first.
This strikes me as an extremely misleading framing of how the last year has played out. The number of people who flatly believe there is no pandemic is exceedingly small, and the types of conversations you mention above haven't ever been entertained by public officials.
