General A thread to discuss and follow the incoming inflation bomb

Enock-O-Lypse Now!

Underneath Denver International Airport
Fox Business & CNN incorrectly reporting that we've seen a break in lumber pricing. Completely wrong.

They are looking at futures, which has fallen off up until yesterday when it was limit up.

Futures are futures
Cash is cash
2 different markets

We've leveled off a little on the cash market, but by no means have prices dipped yet.
We looking at late july early August before we finally see lumber prices come down?

Lot of people just not buying at these prices...

What's the outlook Hauler @Hauler ?

We're still up on the week, but not nearly the increase of what we've seen. It slowed considerably, but definitely not down like the news is reporting.

The next 2 weeks will be telling, but I think we've reached the "I'm walking away" price.

Futures are up limit again today, which closed the gap from cash to only $61/m for July. That would suggest a steady market here - or at least a calmer one.

Sept has a discount of $211/m to cash
Nov is $365/m lower than current cash
Jan is $434/m lower.
None of that is overly surprising.

It feels toppy, but it might be a slow grind down rather than the typical edge-of-the'table scenario. As I said - the next 2 weeks should tell us a lot.

I'm too lazy to upload it - but here's a pic from my com screen of a chart to show where we are. This dates back to March of 2019. It was fairly steady for about a year - which is typical for lumber. Then all hell broke loose.

But that shows how huge this run has been and how far away from "normal" we are.

This doesn't include this week's number, which would show it flattening at the top for the week.

kneeblock @kneeblock hasn't yet let me know how we're going to figure out "the price of lumber" but it sounds like the bet just got a lot higher.

Hauler @Hauler what it do. Are we going to the moon on this?

Fucking morons don't know why we are so reliant on Canadian wood to begin with.

You can quadruple the price of Canadian lumber - I still can't source 95% of my jobs with 'Merican wood.

Because of 'Merica beurocracy.

Fucking idiots.
