I grew up in Hong Kong, my dad was a triad and both my parents were heroin addicts. The walled city was a shithole
Ahhhh....Its crazy the way we just assume things about people....I would never have guessed this was a part of your background...Glad it worked out though man....This was the most interesting post in this whole thread.

As a Hong konger do you with it was still part of the UK? I'm semi old enough to remember the protests etc back in 96 (I think when they went back to chiner)

Do you still have family out that way? Hong Kong is my actual number one destination I want to visit that I've never visited.

It doesn't affect me, I think it should be up to the people who live there. Yes I still have family in Hong Kong although a lot of them moved to Vancouver.

Leigh @Leigh what was worse, the walled city or the warehouses of Vancouver?
The warehouse I lived in wasn't that bad, it was my dad's mechanic shop. The Walled City had tiny flats in squalor - and when I say tiny, I mean a family living in a room less than 100sqft and crime everywhere. Hong Kong had (has?) really high rates of crime anyway and the Walled City was the epitome of that.

To clarify, I didn't live in the Walled City. I lived in Pokfulam (and later Discovery Bay) and went to an English speaking school.

You remind me of Donnie yen. He grew up in Boston. His mother is a grandmaster of wing chin or some shit and when he grew up he used to get in fights and trouble. Eventually they moved to Hong Kong to keep him out of trouble.

Which also always reminded me of Bruce Lee, who had a similar story but opposite.

Why haven't you been in movies?

people dont "escape hk"
For the record, I was using 'escape' in a different context. His family's situation could have been in any geographical location. When you get so far down a certain path in life it can be extremely difficult to 'escape' from it.

Much respect to his parents, or whoever... Leigh @Leigh seems to be good people.

When China approves my previous post I think you may understand.
china doesnt approve or disapprove posts on tmac.

in any "context" saying some escaped the US would be strange. the same thing applies to saying someone escaped hk

Fuck me running. Can you read English?

Per my previous post, there is a difference between escaping a location and escaping a situation.

Maybe it's your small screen.
