General Finally talked my wife into a gun safety course. What guns should I be purchasing for home safety/hunting?

CZ SP-01 Shadow. Look into it.

I've been toying with this for a couple years now. Browning does a camo Cynergy in 3.5.
Those Shadow’s are nice. I was looking at the CZ Woodcock O/U 3inch 28 inch barrel for about $650. Sportsman’s Warehouse exclusive. I’ve always wanted a side by side but I can find a beat up one for under 250 bucks from Simpson’s online. The uglier the better, I say.

At risk of sounding ignorant here, because this isn’t something that I follow or research closely. But isn’t it called the Phantom instead of the Shadow? Or are both of these options? With the SP01, one was composite while one was steel framed. Is the shadow something different?
At the risk of sounding like a cunt. In Canada we get our CZ's from the Czech Republic where the American ones are (I believe) made in America with parts from the Czech Republic or some such nonsense because of whatever bullshit Slick Willy brought in, it's the same law that makes it so you don't get Norinco's or stuff made in Russia. Anyways, they're both options. The Shadow is the souped up factory legal race gun version. Phantom is polymer frame with a decocker, where the Shadow is steel framed with a thumb safety and a better trigger.

Looking at the overall weight I believe you’re right. The Shadow 2 is about 47 grams and the Phantom is roughly 29. I’m guessing the Shadow is the steel framed. The price difference is about 600 bucks with the Phantom coming in at 599 and the Shadow 2 at 1200 and the Shadow 2 Orange coming in at 2000. Not sure of the difference though. They’ve been a bit too rich for my blood. Right now

I believe the Shadow 2 is not IDPA legal if that sort of thing matters to you at all. Shadow 1 is usually in the sweet spot price point wise between the 2 and the other CZ-75's.

And you cunts can get the vz 58. I don’t think I’ve ever seen one here. Import AK prices are crazy here right now. I want a Norinco or some Russian Saiga or Vepr. Zastava m70s are around and are decently priced but I think they’re manufactured here. I love my basic ass WASR 10 ??.

I’m not planning on competing with it. I’m assuming that’s what IDPA is. I’m definitely gonna research the two of them and shop around. The Cz 75 is a rad pistol.
Got banned last year.

I really don’t know for certain, but I was under the impression that my CZ was made in the Czech Republic. The box it came in states it was made there, and all the paperwork that came with it is in Czech. And it is also stamped on the gun. But who knows.

Was just at the sporting goods store
.40 was $50 for 100
.22LR was $35 for 300

I don’t have an AR but .223 ammo was $25 for 20. Jesus.

Ultimately, I guess it doesn’t really matter. I’ve always been happy with it, and it appears to be made of the quality that they’re known for ?

I just hadn’t ever even thought about it not being made there
It's a weird thing that Clinton brought in where there needs to be "X" amount of American made components in a firearm. It's very possible there's some other part of it I know nothing about. The ones I've seen roll marked as being "CZ USA, Kansas City, Missouri" have absolutely been of the same quality as the the Czech marked ones, so I certainly wasn't suggesting the American made versions to be "lesser than" they're just more expensive.

Yes you were. You were calling him a cunt and saying he got a plastic toy from Taiwan, I know what you implied.

My P10C says Made in Czech Republic and my P10S says Kansas City.

I’m heading to Bass Pro to return some stuff and I’m gonna hit Scheels on the drive home. I’m interested to see what the supply looks like.

I stopped in a week or 2 ago and Bass Pro had 223/5.56 200 round range packs for $120 and they had a shit ton of it.

Quick question, how much do you folks spend on ammunition per annum?

How much of it have you used against home invaders compared to sport?

Yeah that 556, 223 went up alot. Even that 22lr at that price is insane. I got some 556 the beginning of the year at 25¢ a round. Got a couple of boxes of 22lr the 325 round pack for 10 bucks. People say it's going to be like this all the way till later half of next year. Hard to find ammo at a good price and can't find a PS5 at all.

For me it is all for sport. I have one box of “home defense” ammo which is only 10 rounds. But I’ve never ever tried firing those.

I haven’t been shooting much the past couple of years, and haven’t been buying much ammo at all. For the last year plus there hasn’t been any available to buy, and if you do find it it is crazy expensive.

I keep some ammo on hand but I’m not stockpiled like some. I usually only by ammo when I go to the range, or out to shoot clays. Replace what I used that day kind of thing. But I really haven’t bought much since the prices have been jacked up (only bought 4 boxes over the past year and a half). I haven’t been shooting so it doesn’t really matter and I have enough on hand that I could go shoot if I wanted to. I’m not going to load up at these prices just so I can go shoot clays or paper targets.

lately for me it’s mostly been BB and pellets, and also bow and arrows with my son. I’ve been really enjoying shooting the bow with him so that’s been the focus recently.

I appreciate the reply, what I was curious about was the actual percentage off ammunition purchased versus the actual amount used in self defense. I'd bet 99% of all ammo sold is never used in an actual life or death situation.

It's fun to shoot guns. I like doing it. I've never tried a bow (but I have watched the lord of the rings movies a lot). I've just always been a bit fascinated by American views on firearms.
