In case you see them available down there, this is the OF fancy lineup. They’ve really grown on me.It definitely has a unique flavor. Unlike any other bourbon I've tried, and it's damn good.
I say get the bottle if you can get it at cost. Question is can you hold onto it, and only bring It out on occasion?
This is what I grabbed:I say get the bottle if you can
Wow! I'd be reluctant to open the bottle. I know that once it's uncorked I'd always be justifying "one more pour, just one" and then the bottle would be empty! ?This is what I grabbed:

They only release around 5000 bottles of this Balmorhea offering each year, so what actually makes it to a local store shelf is even less. 5000 to spread around the globe isn’t very many bottles! Jim Murray that writes the Whiskey Bible each year has ranked it as the winner of the best whiskey from a micro distillery two years in a row.
it is described as “candy in a glass”. It’s really dark, and allegedly a pretty bold one.
Here is one review I just clipped:
The bourbon pours strikingly dark, and has a rich, ruddy, copper-bronze color. The barrel notes on the nose can be picked up from afar, but a closer and more considerate sniff reveals stewed plums, bourbon-soaked cherries, shortbread biscuits, and an intense, cooked vanilla bean that had me thinking of a pudding dessert.
It is creamy and rich in texture, and begins darkly sweet with cooked fruits followed by big, rich licks of creamy vanilla. But what’s even more notable on the palate is oak, which starts at the center and gradually increases in its boldness while growing ever more grippy and tannic. By the time it hits the back of the palate, the taste buds are fully engaged by a rich, crackling vein of oak peppered with cinnamon, baking spices, candied pecan, and peanut brittle. Its finish is long, gradual, and pleasantly meandering, content to let the palate sit and contemplate the full measure of its barrel flavor without overwhelming it.
Garrison Brothers Balmorhea delivers some of the most pronounced oak flavors I’ve ever encountered in a bourbon, deftly rounded out by flavors of creamy vanilla, stewed fruits, and nutty desserts. It’s an absolute powerhouse of a bourbon, capable of diving deep into the barrel while delivering darkly rich flavors that wouldn’t be out of place on an ice cream sundae.
It cracked the woodford DB open last night for a try. It’s very dark in color, that second barrel adds a lot to the color and flavor. It was very rich, almost buttery or creamy, but still sweet. Very interesting, I enjoyed it.Ill have the the WR double oak in constant rotation, it's a winner. I'll keep an eye out for johnny drum, but I doubt I'd ever fund it around these parts!
Definitely an easy sipper. One you offer to people apprehensive to drinking whiskey straight. It cracked the woodford DB open last night for a try. I wonder if there will be some similarities to the Balmorhea, as it is also aged in two barrels and is supposed to be very rich/bold like I described this one.
these are like dessert bourbons….nice
I agree with this article, and I have actually started exploring scotch more. Bourbon prices have become stupid. Bottles I used to buy regularly (often covered in dust) 10+ years ago in the $30-50 range are now going for like $300-500 and up to $1000 sometimes. They are often bottles I enjoy, but I’m not paying $300 plus for a regular bottle. As much as I may like them, they just simply aren’t $300+ bottles or really special in any way. If I had more money back then, and had known this would happen, I could have literally bought hundreds of ‘fancy’ bottles and made a fortune.I blame pretentious millennials like @Grateful Dude and @ShatsBassoon for the skyrocketing prices...
Priced Out of Bourbon? Go Back to Scotch
I like how people who came into bourbon last year are blaming those of us that have already been here for the increased demand.I agree with this article, and I have actually started exploring scotch more. but, don’t blame me - I’m not a millennial ? I am not responsible for their bullshit.

If someone ever asked me "what type of guy drinks mimosas?", that would be the perfect image to show them. Momo city.
