Correct. Cosby has taken the same take but it's a bit problematic for many people who haven't reached their success.
I'd like us to get to a point where that's true. But those terms existing simply acknowledge the realities of the past and the need for continued improvement.
Europeans largely views those terms as existing as creating racism. I'd agree with that if black America didn't want the term and we were pushing it upon them as a label. But it's quite the opposite.
It brought joy to my heart when the French called out that race-baiting asshole Trevor Noah for being a racist. France won the football World Cup, and Noah made jokes about "Africa won the World Cup" and "thank you, Africa" and such.
“I get it, they have to say it’s the French team,” said Noah, who is black and South African. “But look at those guys. You don’t get that tan by hanging out in the South of France, my friends.”
The French ambassador to the US called him out for being a racist hypocrite, since the black players are French. There is no such thing as African-French, either you are French or you are not. The ambassador told Noah that it was extremely offensive for him to deny the player's Frenchness because their skin was too dark for HIS ignorant idea of what a French man apparently MUST look like.
Of course, Noah doubled down and didn't apologise or admit error or fault at all. But, it was still nice to see him explicitly called out for his racist bullshit.
