It will be very interesting to see how this develops. Based on the little blurb below, if this comes to fruition, it could break the UFC’s stronghold on dictating direction for the sport of MMA and fighter rights/compensation.

With a 50/50 revenue split and all those benefits, I would assume they will have fighters lined-up around the block with interest. Sure up and comers will want to fight on the biggest stage, but I have to imagine there are plenty at the middle stages of their career who would be really interested in the pension and ensuring their second act is the best choice to take care of their families. Who knows though.

Sounds good on paper but they're going to have to have a massive amount of upfront capital AND know that they're going to lose their asses for a while AND be fine with a few middle tier cast-offs as their headliners. Because they're still going to have to deal with existing contracts that effectively have every big name fighter locked down for a bit.

I hope they can figure something out and provide a good alternative but I have a feeling this will be more of a quick cash grab by the people raising the funds.

Definitely have a cool concept but holy shit what an uphill battle to fight.

In the article say they won't rely on the promotion model. So I guess that means promotion would be separate, as it should be, but does that mean they'll affiliate with existing promoters? The other issue is it's not a good look if your employer creates your collective bargaining agreement. 50/50 sounds nice, but some agreements get more than 50 to the athletes, especially for headliners, e.g. boxing. Better to let such terms be dictated by the workers and then have negotiations to meet at a mutually agreeable compromise. Still, it's the best deal I've heard of in this sport.

They better have some investors with deep pockets who are prepared to lose money for several years until they get established. Gonna be a tough road.

Yes you're right. We should continue allowing the monopoly that is the UFC to pay athletes less than 20% of their profits while athletes in other major sports with a CBA get 50%.
