Other than the ugly front end it appears to be a strong performer.
Should have a frunk that opens the grill like the electric f-150 too but that's a minor complaint.

Excellent off-road, adaptable suspension for on road, nicer interior than other trucks, thoughtful overlanding additions, better payload capacity than a lot of competition, and sits at a popular size between the tacoma and tundra.

It's gonna sell like hot cakes and the R1S will probably sell even better

It looks atrocious. The rest although you're certainly entitled to you opinion, is very subjective. If it's actually in between a Tacoma and Tundra for size, it will be a flop in the pickup truck market. The price tag on it is absurd.

One thing worth pondering while you drool over the Rivian is do you trust ERCOT to be able to get you to work the next time there's a, well, anything?

How bout this generation of Tundras?
Got any input on em?
Drove a couple today, pretty nice rigs from what I could tell...one had a freaking 38 gallon tank(someone said it needs 6 gallons in it to submerge the fuel pump? Is this true?)

Funny anecdote...The dealership had to pull a few of them from the lot for repairs...apparently Rats are enjoying the taste of the foam that is on the underside of the hood and on the engine itself...Rat got in a chewed the hell out of that foam on 3 different trucks, plus rat shit all over the engine area...gross

BeardOfKnowledge @JakePaulsBeard

I drove a '13 and '14 Tacoma with 4.0 today...Very nice indeed, felt more normal to me.

For reference. That 4 liter has less HP and less torque than the 3.5 of the 16+. Sure doesn't feel that way, does it?

I personally don't have a lot of use for a full sized truck, but in terms of "Are they reliable?" Yes.

I've heard people bitch about their fuel mileage "Oh, my F150 this." "My old Chev that." But I've heard that complaint from owners of every vehicle. Some people think their vehicle should run on invisible magic.

Thanks, I still have use and just don't know much about that engine yet.

Not me, gas in a work expense.

4.6 or 5.7?
I think all the new ones have 5.7?

Looking at 2021s of various makers and types...work truck for when I rent equipment for jobs
I have a good full size(old tho), but if I am looking at new mid size I figure should also consider getting one that can do both types of trailers(light and dual axle equipment trailer).

My pops says that 5.7 is solid, but I am not sure he knows shit about it because he drives a dodge 3500 diesel...haha

I've never seen any issues with the 5.7's outside of air pumps, but they were covered under a really high mileage emissions component warranty. Good power. Especially if you do something like order the short cab, short bed 4x4.

right on

I often think about having a job I can ride a bike to
I used to ride 20 miles per day every day
I've been WFH since the pandemic hit. My truck to get out of town, if I need to haul something, or if it is raining. Other than that, I take the bike.

I need regular bed but not Crew Cab
and most likely 4x4

although they have a couple 2 wheel drives that are interesting, just wondering how they would feel on dirt road/ice/snow...I don't do any of that crawling stuff, just washed out logging roads to alpine lakes

I still have no idea when my Bilstein’s or tires are going to arrive. Only been a week and a half since ordered, but I’m already impatient.

my tires are in rough shape, I need those new shoes badly.

soon I guess, hopefully before I have a blowout out in the middle nowhere

When I say short bed, it's still 6 feet. Only the Crew Max comes with the 5.5ft bed if I'm remembering correctly. The most common one we sell is double cab, regular bed, 4x4.

As poorly as you'd expect a truck with no weight in the back and 300hp to do.

Ok, Got it
Yep, that model is what I would prefer

The 8foot bed is crazy long, would be a bitch to maneuver in some situations no doubt

Let me ask you this BeardOfKnowledge @JakePaulsBeard

with the new shocks, I have 5 settings to choose from. The highest is 2.5 inches, which according to bilstein is supposed to be level. But I think that may refer to 2wd trucks….is their rake set differently than a 4wd? I’ve been waffling between the 1.75 and 1.25 settings. I’m hoping to keep a little bit of rake, don’t want it totally level because I do have weight in the bed sometimes.

thing is, when I get the tape measure out, none of this makes sense. 2.5 is way too much, I don’t have that much rake and it would take some blocks in the rear end to keep some rake. But then on the drivers side, the difference is only 1.25, but on the passenger it is 1.75. Is this maybe one of my front shocks sagging? They have a lot of wear, so I wouldn’t be surprised.

I was leaning towards the 1.75 setting, but according to the passenger side that would be level. I’m only putting 33 tires on, so I’m not trying to do anything crazy with the front lift, but a little bit is welcome. But know I don’t know where to have them set

*im trying to do 3 different things right now so excuse typos or incoherence* ?

That's what I have. Tacoma SR 4x4 w/ a 6 ft bed. RPMs run a bit high from a start, but otherwise run fine.
I drove that exact model a few days back.
kind of floated around like a slow responding muscle car...I liked it

Hmm, I've never experienced it floating on me. It's been pretty solid IME.
I am probably describing it wrong, I don't know car terms
That is just how I describe it coming from a stiffer old Ranger...stiff suspension and manual 5 speed 4.0

Actually really enjoyed the way it drove, just figuring out how it would drive with my trailers

A local off-road truck parts shop that specializes in improvements a lot more involved than what I’m doing. It’s where I bought the parts from, they have a full shop for outfitting peoples rigs with cool stuff.
I say the following not to be dismissive, but to be honest and give you the best guidance I possibly can. They'll be able to advise you much better than I can. Assuming your math is right, and it could very well be, I'd say set it to the middle and call it a day. But I'm obviously just guessing when I say that. If they're a legitimate off-road shop, they'll have installed a whole bunch of your shocks on a whole bunch of trucks just like yours. If you tell them what you want, they should be able to take care of it with little fuss.
