Apparently the government of the state of Victoria was also part of the process that granted Novax an exemption. So there's a disconnect between state and federal authorities.
I've just now read that Scott Morrison said that having covid recently doesn't qualify for an exemption under federal rules. It's still unknown whether prior infection is the reason for Novax's exemption, but that's what it's believed to be.
He fucked his visa up.

Ok apparently the exemption was only to play in the tournament, not to enter the country.
Apparently the list of qualified exemptions to enter the country are different from the list of qualified exemptions to play in the tournament lol. What a joke.
And a female player has also now had her visa revoked:

Based on what I'm reading it appears he's unlikely to win an appeal of the decision to revoke his visa. But idk, there's a lot at stake here.
He's also staying in a shitty hotel renowned for its poor quality. The Serbian government has demanded that he be moved to a nicer hotel lol.
His appeal hearing is scheduled for Monday and the tournament starts a week from Monday. So he's already going to miss 5-6 days of practice in the lead-up to the event. That could end up being big as he progresses through the tournament (assuming he is allowed to stay).
