General Will Smith Just Smacked Chris Rock at the Oscars / Official Oscar Thread

I have watched this video ten thousand times. There is no world in which I'm standing there like Chris once I saw Will's face and saw him get up, but once he realized what was up he braced for it because he's been slapped a lot. In fact, he made a whole tv series about getting the F beat out of him. He clearly didn't believe it was possible because of the venue, but he and the world learned a valuable lesson that you can catch it anywhere from anyone, which he shouldn't have forgotten.

I mean Will Smith is the pretty clean guy rapping about he don’t need to swear and gives acceptance speaches about loving people is somebody life time comedians should worry about getting slapped by at the Oscar’s? Over a rather harmless joke? I think that’s one of the things I can’t get, we’re talking alopecia. This isn’t a AIDS joke pointed at Sir Elton ffs. It was a bald joke aimed at a bald woman who’s had a lot of short hair styles. If that’s the line in the sand for the Smith then simply lol.

I think it was a bad joke. In poor taste.

But I also think the slap wasn't warranted

I'm not judging Will's actions. Everyone has their line for whatever reason. It's not up to us to evaluate the merits of someone's emotions to a diss. What I disagree with is that Chris could have expected anything besides what happened when Will approached him. This dude is a seasoned comic who's been in clubs on the road and seen things jump off. Also he's not from the burbs. When someone comes at you after you played them, and not for the first time, if you don't have the possibility that you could get smacked in your mind, you're lost. It shouldn't have happened, but even George W Bush knew when to duck.

I'm not judging Will's actions.

I don’t judge his “motivations” but I certainly judge the “actions” of an audience member striking a comedian that was doing a bit. Forget who these two are for a moment and what was said, I don’t think this is a healthy precedent to set or an example of something that is justifiable in society.
