From a still frame of the video, it looks like the taser is a 7 CQ. I believe that particular taser only carries 2 shots.

If 2 shots were already fired, the cop had no reason to be all that worried about it. If the cop was in fear for his life, he could have just stood up and backed away. If the guy runs at you, take him out. If he runs away, waive good-bye and call it in on the radio. Again - it was a traffic stop over a license plate.

As so many of these go - both the victim and the cop have fault. One - STOP FUCKING RESISTING. And for the cop - de-escalation is a practice completely absent from just about all of these shootings.

Again - that's IF the taser was empty of usable rounds.
Guys already shown hes willing to take weapons from the officer. Cop no longer has the taser and cant use nonlethal force. Suspect still actively fighting the police officer and refusing commands. If the cops gun is taken he could be killed and others. Remove the threat

Maybe cops should be better funded and have two cops per car.

Maybe if they were allowed to use chokes and bjj they wouldnt have to shoot.

Maybe in life or death struggles initiated by suspects we should err on the side of police staying alive over criminals

Guy has a useless weapon and the cop is the one on top. The cop is the one putting himself in harm's way. Back away and let the guy run off. If he doesn't run off and he instead confronts the cop - then you remove the threat.

If the guy is the one on top of the cop - totally justified shoot. But that's not what happened here.

Note: My stance changes if that wasn't a 2-shot taser or if it was only fired once.

If the cop feared for his life, he had 2 options.
  • Back up off the guy to achieve some distance.
  • Put a bullet in his brain.
As for the dead guy, part of me wants to say "Play stupid games...", but this could have ended differently.

All for a bad license plate? The juice ain't worth the squeeze, man.

Sad but true

Getting arrested is easy. They do most of the work for you honestly and he was able to successfully get arrested multiple times prior. All he had to do was comply and he could have had another meaningful picture taken of him
This meme pretty much sums it up...

It's the culture. Its deeply engrained and going to be nearly impossible to remove
They are immigrants. Read the story.

"CBS Miami's Karli Barnett went to the Makarenkos' home. Someone answered the door, identifying himself as a family friend, but did not agree to talk on camera.

On the mailbox, there were taped signs with a QR code saying to "help Ukrainian refugees wrongly jailed." The code leads to an online petition with 360 signatures. The description reads, in part: "The three arrested family members—mother, father, and son are being accused of severe crimes with multiple charges against them! These could result in a life-in-prison-sentence in the United States or (if even possible) deportation back to Ukraine—where an excruciating war is happening now.""
