That's what I thought for a long time & never converted. After a few friends had good luck with them I followed suite. You will end up swapping them out more frequently if you only go by their "recommended" number/grams of packs per cubic foot though. I went WAY over & things stay rock solid top to bottom.
Did you seal up anything in the back of the humidor?

No. It's the 1st generation NewAir. I'd have to look again but don't think there's a fan that has direct access to the exterior. There may be a convoluted pathway but not a straight shot. I'll take a look when I get home tonight.

It probably doesn't matter since I have a different brand. I'll just pull mine out if I choose to convert it. I like the cooling feature for summertime weather, but twice I did have mold issues due to poor air circulation. Tossed a lot of sticks away as a result. I only put a few low profile boxes in there now. That would obviously be solved by going the route you went.

Mold can happen no matter what. Swapping to 65rh or bovedas will help. I've only had mold issues with a box of Room101 Master Collection 1 Mutante sticks. They were even stored at low rh & had plenty of air flow. spoke to a few people with several decades more experience than myself & came to the conclusion that it's part of the "loss" in the fermentation process. You're going to have a few go bad along the way. Just make sure to clean the crap out of the area when purging.

Where you buying these at?
I don't know shit about shit when it comes to cigars, but I do like them.

When I go into a a tobacco store I have no idea what I'm looking at. I usually just grab one that's around $10

The majority of mine come from these two shops:

I also try to patronize some of my local B&M’s but bring in CA makes that an expensive proposition. Having a family I don’t tend to hang out at the lounge so usually just buy a few cigars every couple months from a local place or while traveling.

I also have quite a few cigars from trades with friends & with a few on the OG’s cigar thread.

If you’re really looking to learn about cigars there’s plenty of reading available online. If you’re just interested in finding out what you like, my best advice is to find a good B&M in your area & have them assist you in your selections. Don’t be shy or embarrassed about asking questions, they’re there to help. The majority of cigar guys love sharing knowledge & experience & the tobacconist at the shop should be no different. That said, be wary of reviews & shops only trying to push certain brands, you can consider those as paid advertisers.

If you have any questions, feel free to ask here as well

Just as Rmen said, going to a B&M will offer tons more knowledge than ordering online. If you have a nice place to sit and smoke, I'd do that. You will learn tons of info chatting it up with workers/customers

If it was numerous sticks in different areas of the humidor, it sounds like a heat/humidity issue. Get a stand alone hydrometer and watch the temp. A computer fan would work good in it for circulation
