I'm sure anybody who's spent any time over on the OG forum knows about Altofsky and his knife forging skills. I got on his list and after a month and a half or so, I got my knife set the other day.

What do you think?!

His pics...

My crappy pics!

Badass. I remember that dude, and he has some serious skills. Mind me asking what these cost? And what's the sharpness like? And how do you have a stone or tool to sharpen them after time?

Those look great OP. Any chance you would send Altofsky a PM asking him to create a thread here? Id be in the market to get something like those.

Really ? Fuck so the knives shown above are a modern day attempt ?
Yeah, basically Damascus Steel was an ancient technique originating from the middle east and india, no one is exactly sure where. Named after the patterns that were similar to what was on pottery from Damascus, but I don't know if it was always called that. That swirling pattern was a lot smaller on traditional Damascus steel and it was one of the properties that made it stronger than steel at the time, although, types of modern steel are stronger now.

The difference between Damascus steel and ordinary steel was the introduction of nanotubes into the steel. How they managed that is up for debate, but one of the leading theories that I've heard about is some form of vegetation is burnt over the metal at some time during the process. As I said, no one knows, but we can make steel as good as or better than it now, but for the time(before 1750s) it was unrivaled for its plasticity and strength.

I'm on the list for Altofsky to make me a "Necker" out of damascas. Needless to say, I'm pretty excited!
