Not sure on this, but I believe they think that purchasing the website and cleansing it of the "undesirables" they will bring new members to the site and they will then get ad revenue, then profit. This has worked for Disney Star Wars, comic books and other properties. And by worked, I mean caused the fanbaser to crater.

I just installed this, works pretty good

Far bottom left of the site is a theme picker where you can select Dark Mode. A couple of the buttons need to be updated, but it looks good for the most part.
