My great grandmother was openly racist and honestly thought everyone else was too.
I remember he saying "the blacks" like it was some sort of moral compromise for her.
She literally had a cat named "nigger".
In Oakland in the 50s.
Once at the mall (teenage nightmare) she pointed at an unwed mother and baby, that was in my same grade, and loudly stated "well, just look at that picaninny! They're are pretty cute when they're young."
I was pretty sure I was going to get shot at the bus stop the next morning.
