Yeah, I think learning to can and preserved food is an essential life skill at any point in someone's life.

Only if the parents get the same amount of lashes alongside their kids. The bullshit starts at home.

A nun took it to me with my own shoe, I laughed and she go more angry.
Different era lol

I could feel she was angry at my mojo and testosterone even as a 12 year old, she might have been sexually frustrated lol. Made it a mission to bust my balls and lost.

Nowadays she goes to jail, back then I laughed and we all moved on.

To be fair I did flick the shoe off my foot and it broke something that was 30 feet away.

They were crazy people
I set the record for discipline at that school at that time
My inquisitive nature didn't go over well, they didn't want any questions about anything
Nuns would literally cry to my parents

I've had the belt, the wooden spoon, the shoe, and the bare hand.
It teaches you something, but it isn't always the lesson that is intended.

I tried to fly under the radar at that age but being a lefty put a huge target on my back, they beat me worse than iron Mike vs Spinks
Thanks to those butchy bitches I am ambidextrous

One of my teachers in elementary school had a boat paddle with holes drilled in it and the handle cut off long enough to get a 2 hand grip. She would make kids hold their ankles and she would swing like she was trying to hit a home run. She didn’t have to use it often, so it was definitely a deterrent. She was the extreme case. Other teachers typically just had a rick-rack paddle and a few eschewed paddling altogether in favor of a wooden ruler applied to either the knuckles or palm of the hand. Ah, the 1960s.

In the school I went to there were a birch cane, slipper and also something called the "T bar". It was a fairly wide flat piece of wood attached to a long handle.

I got 6 of the best from the T-bar once, it slapped your entire arse at once. Stung like hell, and I couldn't sit down immediately afterwards, but didn't leave painful welts like others described from the birch cane so I suppose I got off lightly.

The principal had a paddle on his wall, but I never saw him use it, just threats and rumors that he did.

We had a kid completely lose it after getting hit in the face with a ball in gym class and when he was back in class he slapped the teacher. We could hear the kid screaming and wailing down the hall, he was having a complete psychotic breakdown. They called the dog kennel next door and they brought over a cage and they threw the kid in it until his dad came and got him. The dad and all the kids in that family were unhinged. Each time one of the kids got to the age where they couldn't take it anymore and were moving out they'd burn down the barn on their farm. I think it happened 3 times.

Where the fuck did y'all grow up and are you 80+ years old?
I born in South Carolina, grew up in East Tennessee and am in my mid 40's. We got spanked by everyone, with everything. If an adult caught you acting up in a store and your parent wasn't around, at minimum, you'd get a "you better quit that shit". The world is a much better place when the threat of physical violence against children is immense. Kids and women are way too uppity these days because they think you won't hit them. I got paddled by our elementary school principal, day care teachers when "time out" wasn't working. It never did. Aunts and Uncles spanked me, friend's parents spanked me. I was a little asshole and should have been spanked way more often than I was.

Not all kids need it, but some do. I was definitely one of them.

If someone hit my kid I'd maim them and then fuck them in the ass through their mouth hole.

Y'all are deranged.

In 5th grade they were going to paddle me for getting into a fight at school (new kid problems).
My dad put a real quick stop to that shit. "I'm the only one that can hit him, understand?"

This is true.
You were kind of everyone's kid.
And if it happened your parents generally assumed you deserved it.

Kids were scared of their PE teachers and fights were settled with more fighting.
