That rice was my go to side when we had a Church’s here back in the late ‘80s. The fried okra was good too. There was some tie-in to the Hagler-Hearns bout in ‘85 and I had one of their large plastic cups promoting it that I kept for years.
Dayam, I didn't realize that rice went back that far! I just picked up it recently, prolly in the last couple years, when they introduced their chicken fried steak. Makes me sad I didn't try it years ago. I ate the SHIT out of Churche's chicken in college. Not because I thought it was the best chicken ever, but because it was like a couple bucks cheaper than Popeyes and I was poor back then LOL. I ate there at least three or four times a week. And during the mid-late 90s they introduced some fuking Mexican food, trying to compete with like KFC/Taco Bell combos I think. I wasn't that good. But it was CHEAP, and basically free if you had their coupons. I remember going to the Churches on Riverside, Austin, TX, for the second time in the day, and the manager was like, whoa, we got a real Churches fan here, and I was like yea, but I'm here for the free Mexican food this time LOL.
Man, if you ever find that Hagler-Hearns cup, I'll give you a 20 spot for it, straight up...
