I like Shafir's mean, "edgier" heel gimmick. She started it quite a while back in Josh Barnett's Bloodsport - the promotion that's more like old school catch style / pancrase-based pro-wrestling. She ran through a few opponents there with this gimmick. Shayna Baszler competed in Bloodsport 2-3x, as well. Regardless of Shayna's gimmick, her bigger name & being a fan favorite placed her as a babyface.Weird that the only talent who is being booked properly is Mariah May! I like the physically attractive, violent psychopath gimmick she's working. Helps that she's a very competent worker in the ring and very good on the mic. I think May is the best female heel in AEW with 2nd place going to Marina Shafir with the silent, but deadly, mean mugging enforcer gimmick. So far so good for the both of them.
Marina just did a Bloodsport match on the 24th.I like Shafir's mean, "edgier" heel gimmick. It looked like they might be building to a Shafir / Baszler match, woulda had a good story going in considering first their Four Horsewomen roots, then Shafir being one of Baszler's supporters (or whatever you wanna call it) with Jessamyn Duke in NXT.
Not sure what ever ended up happening with any of it, though. I don't think there's been a Bloodsport show since July, and I don't think Shafir has been on one since maybe spring.
Oh? I didn't realize there had been another event. I hadn't heard of once since the one right after Bushido in the summer.
Bushido, btw, was awesome. 100% old school PrideFC vibes.
"Bloodsport" is promoted by GCW. It's operated as a separate entity and booked by Josh Barnett. No connection to GCW "story lines" or booking. Cool that it's treated as neutral territory. WWE, AEW, TNA, NWA et al have all let Barnett use their talents.Isn’t Bloodsport run by GCW
Oh shit, nice - thanks. I'm gonna have to watch the whole event.
I fucking love Bloodsport events."Bloodsport" is promoted by GCW. It's operated as a separate entity and booked by Josh Barnett. No connection to GCW "story lines" or booking. Cool that it's treated as neutral territory. WWE, AEW, TNA, NWA et al have all let Barnett use their talents.
Yeah, saw some clips from Starks' CVV interview. He was laughing off the supposedly having backstage heat for being at the Rumble or Mania, or having to ask Tony for permission to go to those shows, as he wasn't even the only AEW talent there. The Starks stuff is beyond silly...and someone (lots of people?) are flat out bullshitting.
Supposedly AEW people say they pitched him an idea that Big Bill would turn on him when they were tag champs, splitting them up, and Starks would win the feud. Further speculation is that Starks turned it down because he didn't want to be a babyface. Starks has apparently said he's never turned down a single creative pitch to him.
There's also some bullshit about him having heat because he went to the Rumble to watch Cody, he was seen on a security feed, and someone leaked the photo. Yet he & someone else (I forget who) went to Mania to see & support Jade, yet nobody cared?
The GCW stuff is weird, too. One story is that the whole Starks appearance was a work a la Jack Perry in NJPW. Another story is that was originally the plan, but then he went off script in his promo and it pissed people off. Yet *another* story says the *actual* issue is Effy's comments about not having family money or a "dad that pays me to go away" and that's what riled TK up. Then there's all the Hammerstein shit.
It's more drama than a fucking high school commons area.
I dont think plastic surgery is hereditaryDid they inherit any features from Steph?
A good move... get in WWE and transition into a backstage role for a long term paycheck.Apparently Dustin Rhodes has removed mentions of AEW and ROH from his Twitter bio fueling speculation a move to WWE is in the cards, as he is currently not under contract.
And opens the door for a 2025 or 2026 WWE HoF induction for him.A good move... get in WWE and transition into a backstage role for a long term paycheck.
Also... he'll never eclipse him vs Cody in early AEW. That shit was a masterpiece.
Wow. Just in time for WrestleMania season! Good 4 him.Apparently Dustin Rhodes has removed mentions of AEW and ROH from his Twitter bio fueling speculation a move to WWE is in the cards, as he is currently not under contract.
