No doubt the sec commissioner is doing work tonight to get bama in. He doesn’t want to get less teams in than the Big Ten. But Bama just didn’t earn it. SMU lost in the best way possible.

The lovely and talented Heather Dinich of ESPN now predicts Texas will be hosting SMU in Austin December 20. That would be a fun game to watch between old Southwest Conference rivals.

With so many B1G schools predicted to be in the playoffs (Oregon bye, Penn State, Ohio State, Indiana), it will be interesting if that changes the seedings over where they would normally fall. I doubt the committee wants conference opponents facing off against each other in the first round.

Nothing to do with the SEC

Alabama and Ohio State have received preferential treatment the entire playoff history
Even as a Buckeye fan I can't really disagree with this.
Bama and the Buckeyes bring a lot of eyes to the game. The committee wants them in there.

The layout of this shit is confusing - made a bit worse by the Pac12 falling apart.

On the CFP layout it says 5 Conf Champions will qualify, followed by the next 7 highest ranked teams.
The 4 highest ranked Conf Champions get a bye. The 5th highest ranked Conf Champion will be seeded based on ranking.

Oregon and Georgia get byes - that's easy enough as they are Conf Champs and are ranked in the Top 4.
Are the other 2 byes Boise State (10) and Arizona State (15)? Assuming Clemson (17) doesn't jump them, they'd be the next highest ranked conference champions.

If that's the case, Clemson probably drops to a 12 seed with their Auto-Bid championship. My assumption is they'll play Notre Dame @ 5. The rest of the seeds are a bit wonky because even though they say they don't care, my assumption is they don't want conference opponents in the first round.

So...
12 Clemson @ 5 Notre Dame
11 Alabama (or sub in SMU) @ 6 Ohio State
10 Tennessee @ 7 Indiana
9 Texas @ 8 Penn State

And then assuming Texas beats Penn State, that sets them up to get absolutely fucking BOATRACED by Oregon.

The committee said teams weren’t going to be penalized for playing in the conference championship game. If that’s the case, then UT and PSU have to be ranked 5 and 6. The same argument they used for bama not moving down ca ne used against ND and OSU. They didn’t play yesterday and therefore should not be rewarded. And yes I am aware OSU beat PSU but that is not a consideration the committee said they will use when seeding the teams that lost yesterday.

I hear you - but if it's anything like the BCS committee, they typically say one thing and do something completely different.
We'll see.

I agree with you on that. Plus, I think they will manipulate matchups to get certain teams to the next round.
100%
And I also think they'll play around with seedings to get the most desired 1st round matchups. In order to do that, they have to play around with the rankings - and account for W/L in championship games.

I am curious to see what southern schools have to come north. It’s one of the things I have wanted to happen for a long time.

That's one of the things that pisses me off about historical bowl records and people putting so much stock in them. Generally speaking, the travel for B1G schools is far greater than their opponents. Having some of these warm-area schools travel up north to play in the snow will be a welcome change.

Yep. If bama does get in, I would love to see them have to go to ND, OSU, or PSU and deal with the 25 degree weather with gusts of wind that make you want to quit life.

It sort of sucks that Boise State gets a home game. I hate watching games on their blue field. It's nauseating.

This dude has it updated through last night's games.

His byes are (1) Oregon, (2) Georgia, (3) Boise State, (4) Arizona State

Then it's...
12 Clemson @ 5 Texas * winner to play Oregon
11 SMU @ 6 Penn State * winner to play Boise State
10 Indiana @ 7 Notre Dame * winner to play Georgia
9 Tennessee @ 8 Ohio State * winner to play Arizona State

That also looks good to me and makes sense. No B1G matchups in the 1st Round.

I believe when they said they wouldn't penalize cc teams they meant you wouldn't get dropped out of the playoffs. Nothing to do with seeding though.

Using that as a rule, SMU would be in right?
They were 8 heading into the championship game that they lost.

Within reason yes. Clemson would've been out imo just like A&M would've been out bc they had 4 losses. I don't think there's an exact standard but some of the cc games made sense both still deserved to be in.

Especially since sos/sor means jack shit. Hopefully teams have noticed. Play the easiest schedule you can.
