There are programs through which formula can be obtained for free or discounted.

There are options to make your own formula for a fraction of the cost of store-bought.

There are food pantries that supply formula.

Churches too.

We found out my son need formula 3 days after he was born at 8:30 at night. Explain to me how someone who's broke would go about obtaining it legally.

That's assuming the food bank has it. We've had a massive formula shortage over the last three years we're only starting to come out of over the last 6 months or so.
