Sharon Lopaotka was a woman in the 90’s who often emailed men asking them to kill her. She ended up meeting a man named Robert Glass who would follow through with her request. He pled guilty and was sentenced to 36-53 months on a voluntary manslaughter charge

Sharon Rina Lopatka (née Denburg; September 20, 1961 – October 16, 1996) was an Internet entrepreneur in Hampstead, Maryland, United States who was killed in a case of apparent consensual homicide. Lopatka was tortured and strangled to death on October 16, 1996, by Robert "Bobby" Frederick Glass, a computer analyst from North Carolina. The apparent purpose was mutual sexual gratification.

The case was reportedly the first where a police department arrested a murder suspect with evidence gathered primarily from email messages. While Lopatka and Glass had initially planned a consensual homicide, Glass maintained that the death was an accident, which was corroborated by Lopatka's autopsy. However, police contended the death was intentional. Glass pled guilty to voluntary manslaughter and was sentenced to 36–53 months imprisonment and died before his scheduled release.

This is Rhein II Photograph , a photograph taken by Andreas Gursky, sold for $4.3 million.

This print is massive: 12 feet wide by 6 feet high. It entirely fills your field of vision if you’re standing in front of it, making it feel very immersive

The print is very rare: there’s only 6 prints, three of which belong to large public museums (Tate, MoMA, etc) and unlikely to ever be sold. The fourth is in a private museum, meaning only two copies are held by collectors and potentially sold at some point.

The digital editing actually makes it more interesting. He removed dog walkers and a factory because he wanted to create an idealised view of the Rhein. The large format print makes it feel like you are really “there”, however “there” is not a place that actually exists.

Nakano Takeko, one of the few female samurai of Japan in the 1800s. She led a group of women warriors in the Battle of Aizu (1868) during the Boshin War, and died at 21 years old.

She led an ad hoc group including her mum / sister. Armed with naginata (basically like a spear. Not officially sanctioned to take part. They charged some soldiers armed with guns and she got shot. Her sister beheaded her at her request rather than letting the other army do it so she could take the head for the family
