Can’t say I’ve ever been surprised by a new live music performance in a good way except for Amos Lee opening for Paul Simon years ago. He had a great no frills performance.

Two that were the worst I’ve ever seen live were Metallica & Jack Johnson. Both were horrible live.

I listened to Rare Earth as a kid for years before I finally saw them on an album cover. I absolutely thought they were black.

Wtf? I had no idea. Thought it would be a Four Tops or Temptations looking band. This blows my mind! Thank you for the education.

Oh wait I just realized it is a cover of a Temptations song. My mind was blown thinking this was the original.

Still it's an awesome cover.

lmao it blew my mind when I found out they were white, too. Want your mind blown more?

You said "it's a cover of a Temptations song"...which one? lmao

I'm assuming you mean "Get Ready" as that's one of Rare Earth's most famous songs (along with "I Just Want to Celebrate"). I also heard Rare Earth's version first.

But they ALSO did an extremely good cover of "I Know I'm Losin' You" by the Temptations, too. lol

Indeed - the Temptations are one of my all-time favorite groups. Some of their 70s funk stuff gets pretty wild and is a massive departure from what they did in the '60s after David Ruffin left. Later iterations of the group in the '80s & '90s were wildly different, but still had good music.

As an aside, if you like early Temptations, check out David Ruffin's solo stuff - it's very similar in nature.

The cool thing about Rare Earth's covers is that they're the same songs, but RE made them very much their own.
