Hey, you love F1 right? Good. Come nerd out each race weekend in this thread.

No? Kiss my ass bitch!. I mean. Come join and learn!

What is F1?

Much in the same way that K-1 kickboxing was an organization of corrupt foreign criminals that put to test the question of," just how big or slow does an opponent have to be make a multimillion dollar fight boring?" F1 endeavors on the quest to determine just how much money can Ferrari and Redbull spend before tiny Russian teams catch fire while the cameras are banned from looking at them?

Why is F1 good?

Because its sex, power, and engineering genius all rolled into one. And that's just the old middle aged lesbian on the left Bernie Ecclestone (seen here):

Who likes F1?
People who like to nerd about cars.

Isn't it just like Indy car?
GODDAMIT NO.
Errr, no not quite. They are both winged cars with open cockpits. that's where it ends.
Indy cars are a spec series and are basically the same. That's the point.
F1 has a ruleset, and you can build a car anywhere inside of them. Change wings? Change cockpits? Whatever. As long as it doesn't violate the rules.

This has had some....interesting outcomes.... over the years that were often banned when they were way too awesome (or dangerous for everyone else)....

So half of the game is the team building and doing new engineering and the other half is the drivers being incredible. So you can root for a driver or a team or both. And there are points and trophies for each (drivers championship and constructors championship)

Sometimes the driving is amazing
Sometimes thing go badly:

So now what?
2014 was the first year of a WHOLE NEW ruleset. Everything in F1 got turned on its head.
The biggest thing is the engines changed from a decade of fine tuning V8's (that finally got faster than the V10's before then) to Turbo V6's with electronic battery boosts. The driver can literally hit a turbo-type button like a video game. Why is this awesome and not sucky? This was done to bring big manufacturers back to the sport. The technology to make a 1300 hp v8 doesn't translate down to your car very well. But learning to use hybrid technology for fuel conservation and speed sure does.
So this year is the 2nd year of those changes and will show who has learned the most last year. Last year was unknown clusterfuck for everyone (except Mercedes)

THIS WEEKEND is Australia. Throw another shrimp on the barbie!

I know nothing about Formula 1, but I loved the movie Rush!
Rich playboys get paid to drive expensive cars and fuck hot women around the world in a multiBILLION dollar traveling circus.

James Hunt, one of the two core likenesses personified in Rush, really typified this.

Look at this fucker:

Let's do it. You need to bring your highfalutin ass to Louisville one year for the KY Derby as well. Great weekend of events, and I've got an owners pass that allows us access to the backside of Churchill for Derby & Oaks days.

I have to go to the Derby at some point in my life. I've gone to the Preakness twice and partied on the infield. That is a complete shit show and absolute awesomeness.

FUCK YEAH!!!

I'm a huge formula 1 fan, didn't think mericuuuns were in to it, because you like to race in circles.

So lets talk f1 give me some opinions on the following.

* I'm enjoying the season drama with Giedo van der Garde fighting sauber in courts around the world to get them to honor the contract that they signed and which his sponsors paid about 10 million for.

* I can't wait to see if Max Verstappen can hold his own amongst the drivers in the big leagues

*I can't wait to see if Mclaren-Honda can get there act together.

*Are there any challengers for Mercedes this year

*Who will be faster Vettel or Kimi

They only do half a season, alternating races or doing 2 and then 2 off, stuff like that. It is a lot to ask for family men to travel around the world for half the year.

I went to Vancouver's Molson Indy twice. The one time I was working on the construction of a high rise down town on the Friday so some of us went to the penthouse and watched the time trails after work. I can't remember why they stopped coming but it was fum while it lasted.

MALAYSIA QUALIFYING RESULTS

I've been swamped so watching everything after the fact this weekend:

Qualifying saw some rain and some mechanical problems.

My thoughts:

WTF Kimi. Come on man! I didn't follow why he was so late to getting out.

Hamilton/Rosberg heating things up again? Was Rosberg trying to get info about Hamilton's plans?

Vettel looking great no matter the weather.

Lets talk about Max Verstappen:

Max Emilian Verstappen (born 30 September 1997)[2] is a racing driver, currently competing in Formula One with Scuderia Toro Rosso. He races under the Dutch flag,[3] although he was born in Hasselt in Belgium. Verstappen is the youngest World Championship Grand Prix driver – having made his début, aged 17 years, 166 days, at the 2015 Australian Grand Prix.
Holy shit this kid is going to be amazing. 6th in a Toro Rosso at 17 years old!!

Ferarri made a little mistake by sending him out to late, Kimi got stuck behind Marcus ericsson just before his hot lap.

Rosberg was trying to find out were hamilton was faster and if he was taking the usually race lines, pit couldnt tell him because of the com. regulations.

My fellow countryman Max Verstappen did a superb job, on his first lap in Q2 and getting his hot lap in early while it was raining, he than had a clear track in Q3 gap in front and back of him and put in a great lap, at one point i thought he was gonna take 3rd.
But this kid is something wins almost everything in gokarts, does one season in euro F3 get 3rd overall, but has most wins that season, he is pretty good in the wet in F3 he was 1.5 sec faster a lap than the field behind him.
17 years and cool as can be, by the way he is the son of former dutch F1 driver Jos Verstappen.

love seeing vettel/ferrari in the top again, and i'm very curious to see what Sainz is gonna do tommorow.

It is just sad to see mclaren not having there shit together.
