My first malamute always got a pup cup at the dairy queen when we went and he always got a brain freeze because he didn't remember last time and inhaled it every time.

I always thought ice cream headache was caused by the temperature of your mouth, not throat once everything is swallowed. That was only in his mouth for like 3 seconds. I'll have to give it a try, but I'm calling bullshit for now.
Best theory is that it's nerves having overreactions, especially the vagus nerve freaking out.
Its the brain, imo. You can trick your brain to think its responding to things that aren't there as well. Esentially, making your body react. Why it happens directly to your brain(freeze) is a big hmmm though. I'm thinking its just an asshole like when it gives me a nightmare to wake up to piss. Hold on let me find a vid.
