I hated it because it felt like the primary goal of the writers was to give any character with even the slightest semblance of fan appeal not only an end, but the most sad, tragic end possible. The tranny gets hurt during the big stabbing challenge, finds the way out, and instead of going to safety, goes back for the other women, getting shanked the process.
The old woman kills her own son to save the baby, only to then hang herself.
222 doesn't think she can make it past the jump rope obstacle, so she jumps. (That whole episode was heavy.)
You can tell at the end that nobody is gonna survive because they don't hit the button when it comes up.
456 not only kills himself, but ultimately accomplished NOTHING by going back into the game. He didn't stop it. He didn't save anyone. He left his family alone and in all reality, shoulda gotten on the fucking plane at the end of S1.
222's baby dady DOESN'T have a redemption arc and instead, ends up a scumbag, anyway.
11 gets away, but to no end. Her kid is dead and she's going off to China on what is pretty much assuredly a wild goose chase looking for her kid.
The detective ends up finding the island, but not until almost his entire crew is killed. The island explodes leaving no evidence for authorities, but not before EVERY SINGLE BAD GUY gets off the island and gets away.
Then we see in the final shot that not only is the game still being played, but it's apparently a much bigger operation than anyone ever realized.
Quite literally every protagonist lost & died, while every antagonist won, lived, and got away scott-free with no repercussions.
