I said you could eat a dick...But i was only playin boots...I'm pretty shit with car repairs....No can do.What about you guys...
He really meantCan.
With time, I've slowly started to pay others.
Oil changes and valve adjustments? Timing belt change? That used to be an opportunity. Now it's just in the way once I proved to myself I could do it.
Now if a friend has a project, I'm still down. Replaced the engine and tranny in a friends old w 3 series in a weekend with hand tools and a lot of whiskey. Got a new suspension? Let's upgrade.
My own strut goes out? Fuck off. I'm out unless I'm upgrading. Just some cognitive dissonance on repairing instead of hobbying.
I think I still look at it all as a hobby. If I'm due for an oil change, I see if there's anything else needing done to either of my vehicles and make a day out of it. My son usually hangs out with his play tools and pretends to fix things. I also make a killing on the side doing small repairs for a bunch of young people that work with my gf that don't even know how to check their tire pressures.Can.

Not for little shit or maintenence shit, you get raped. At least you guys explain. The OG milloniares are bragging about making millions and having other people do it and I'm a dirt poor redneck, apparently. I make a modest salary a year and have a lot saved from the oil field, plus the extra from working on other people's shit, and I still can't bring myself to take my car to someone else.
My biggest concern is that amount of people who think they can do things themselves that end up putting unsafe vehicles back on the road, or putting themselves in legit danger trying to save 30 bucks. There's also honestly no value in doing something like an oil change yourself anymore. Especially when you consider that you're liable for any potential outcomes that come from it.At least you guys explain. The problem is if I go get a wheel bearing changed, they want 150, 120 of which is "labour" for a job that takes me, with hand tools and little experience 20 minutes. I honestly think most garages play on peoples ignorance, to jack prices. My biggest concern is that amount of people who think they can do things themselves that end up putting unsafe vehicles back on the road, or putting themselves in legit danger trying to save 30 bucks. I had to go to college, do a 5 year apprenticeship, I have 10's of thousands of dollars invested in tools, and regularly receive up to date training. Comparing what my time is worth when it comes to repairing a vehicle to the minimal investment of time and financial investment in tools someone would need to make a specific repair isn't a fair comparison. The problem is if I go get a wheel bearing changed, they want 150, 120 of which is "labour" for a job that takes me, with hand tools and little experience 20 minutes.
