Im past the two night mark with about 3 hours of shit sleep.

My longest was in 2009 3 days with 20 mins of sleep due to a newborn with colic and a 18 month old light sleeper.

FFS all I need to do is walk 5 mins to the pub and sink 4 pints and ill be sleeping all day. But thats what got me into this mess.

Tell me your horror stories so I can lol at you and feel better about myself hahaha

I once drove 24 hours straight from Canada to Florida after working an 8 hour shift prior to that.

After my son was born I entered a netherworld of sleeplessness. The longest stretch was four days with only periodical 10-minute couch naps. My husband was watching that series Spartacus at the time and I kept thinking I was hallucinating extreme gladiatorial violence.

If you consider "little" sleep, I get no more than (normal being 7 or 8 hours sleep) 5 on a regular basis....

Does that work for you? I know a guy who's naturally like that but I'd kill if I had to make it on that.

Used to do 30 hours awake every week or so in residency.

Most? Probably around 40 hours straight

Donald Trump said he only sleeps 3 hours a day.

I remember Dana White also saying that. He said he only sleeps 2 hours a day.

Oh man. What happens to cognition at that point?
For the 30 you just sort of steel yourself to it. I could go an entire next day ( total around 40 hours) easy if I just could get an hour or two of sleep. You just get used to being on auto pilot for 30 hours.
I couldn't do surgery at that point, but I could easily think enough to do medicine.

But that motor skills starts to fail after 28-30 hours. Like you feel buzzed when watching your hands not work. So driving home was bad if I didn't have some coffee.

At 40 hours its like really buzzed. You catch a second wind and can't sleep right away. Feels almost out of body and hazy.

But the thing is, after getting used to it, you can feel sleep deprivation coming on and should strategically nap. I can nap on demand if I know lack of sleep is coming.

If you can't do that, youre gonna have a bad time.

I can actually function on 3-4 hours a night here and there but Ive been sleeping shitty well before this 48 hours. Ill try and work out how much Ive slept this week but im not firing on ll cylinders right now lol

I do some of my best work in terms of development in the early hours of the morning, I go into manic mode and everything just lines up in my minds eye.

This is very accurate.

When I used to work nights (5:30pm-2am) It wasn't uncommon for me to get up at 11am on Thursday and not go to bed until 11pm Friday just because I had shit I wanted to do, Friday was my day off. By the time I got to about the 30-35 hour mark I could feel that I was starting to turn into a bit of a bear, but nothing a cat nap couldn't sort out.

That's unthinkable to me! But I think it's natural for some people. The thing I wonder is if Dana White and Donald Trump were always like that or if a kinda kingly paranoia got them like that.

Sleep is so interesting. What I can't do is go back to sleep easily once I've woken, even if it's 3am. I'll have to get up for awhile, or read, or something. I used to sleepwalk as a kid, though I've (I hope?) grown out of that.

Anyway Vutulaki I hope you get a blissful uninterrupted restorative sleep soon, and Splinty, thanks for subjecting yourself to Jacob's Ladder in order that people stay alive and stuff.

I could feel that I was starting to turn into a bit of a beard

I'm over 50 hours. I flew from Calgary to London, England but I didn't decide where I wanted to travel to once I got to England. Once I got there I decided to go to Greece but my flight wasn't until the next day. By that point I had been awake a full 24 hours. I was so scared that I would miss my flight so I stayed up all night in the airport and caught the flight in the morning. When I got to Athens I didn't have a clue where I was so I traveled around looking for somewhere to stay for hours. I eventually found a place late at night. I went to sleep at midnight and I woke up at noon and got drunk. It was awesome!!

I'm an insomniac, so I never get 4 straight hours without tranqs.

Longest, (with help, as a teen) was 8 days twice.
Looking back I don't know how I did it, but I'm reaping those glorious benefits these days.

It always amazes me they do stuff like that to young Dr's. They do insane shifts like that here.

My record was 70ish hours with my eyes never closing. Only thing propping me up was soda. I hadn't planned one going without sleep for that long, but work needed me, and then when I had time to sleep I knew I wasn't going to be able to, so I volunteered to work more. Toward the end I started hearing things, and it sounded like people were saying my name, but no one was there. I was still functioning, but I felt like the walking dead. The crazy thing is that when I finally got in bed.....I couldn't sleep. Once sleep happened, I slept 23 hours and didn't move in bed as I work up with my hands on my chest the same way I went to sleep.
In my younger days I liked the way I felt when I went without sleep for 24 hours. It was a nice loose feeling.

Missed going to bed for a couple nights in a row partying when I was a lot younger. Didn't feel especially bad, but I was really drunk going through the second night, so I wouldn't have noticed. I felt much worse travelling on a long haul flight - was awake and moving in taxis, trains and aeroplanes for about 24 hours straight and felt like a zombie.
