World Series of Fighting bantamweight champion Marlon Moraes hasn't been shy about expressing his desire to fight higher ranked opposition. So once the chance to land an undefeated UFC contender like Aljamain Sterling arose, Moraes said he pleaded with WSOF management to pony up the money to sign "The Funk Master."

"Not just told, but I begged (WSOF officials to sign Sterling) because I knew this guy is a big name," Moraes said Monday on The MMA Hour. "He's a great fighter. He works very well for the promotion, and I think it was a smart move by the UFC, keeping him, because he can make a lot of noise in this division.

"He's one of the guys I look up at," Moraes added, "and it would be a pleasure having a guy like that on the roster, so I could be fighting a guy like this and prove where I belong."

Moraes is a perfect 8-0 over the course of his WSOF run and trains alongside respected names like Frankie Edgar and Edson Barboza under coach Mark Henry.

"Everybody knows where I belong," Moraes said. "I have Frankie with me, and Frankie, man, in my opinion, is one of the best 145ers in the world. Training with him everyday is no joke, and I know I can fight with these guys.

Moraes is solid, WSOF would do well to get some intriguing matchups for him. I just think he's a notch above a lot of the WSOF fighters which is as good as it is a bad thing.

this guy is a class act..I have been watching him fight for 5-6 years and he is a top 5, 35er....He has world class Muay Thau and Has a very solid ground game...He would piece Barao up and KO Caraway imho..him vs Cruz,Tj,Aljo or Assuncao would be a pleasure for us all... hopefully Bellator and wsof network cuz There are some good match ups for Moraes there..Dantas,Caldwell,Warren,Lc Davis among others..

Would have been such a waste to see Aljamain in WSOF.

Hopefully Moraes can find his way into the UFC.

If Bellator and WSOF could copromote, that would, in my honest opinion be the shit.

well good thing for moraes is that he's still young and should join the UFC when his contract is done. In the meantime he can lay waste to everyone in WSOF which will bring up his hype when he finally joins UFC

In Coker I trust, but not abdel.
I mean, I wouldn't wanna be associated with Ali, but he's on the scene so they might as well co promote. I wouldn't wanna be associated with Viacom particularly either, but they do help the MMA scene in their own way I guess.

That's the fucked up thing about fighting, lots of shady people in it and everyone looking to benefit off the fighters, Coker is an exception from everything I've heard. If the Ali act doesn't happen, they might as well fall back to the other Ali :p

I wanna see Moraes in the UFC, but there's also the problem that if all talent just leaves the smaller organisations we're back to square one.

That seems to be a fair and balanced viewpoint.

He can build hype among the hardcore fans but 7 people watched WSOF last night. That's not going to help him too much when it comes time to negotiate a pay day.
