Ever since his loss to Conor McGregor at UFC 194, back in December, former featherweight champion Jose Aldo has been making it very clear that he doesn’t plan on getting back into the octagon unless it’s for a rematch against the Irishmen. However, Aldo, who lost to McGregor via 13 KO, seems to have turned down that very opportunity.

According to Globo, Aldo’s coach Andre Pederneiras told them that Dana White called him early in the morning and told him about lightweight champion Rafael dos Anjos pulling out of the UFC 196 scrap with McGregor, set for March 5.

He said White asked if Aldo was in shape and could take the fight. Pederneiras said that they decided that with the lack of time to get ready they needed to decline the fight.

Pretty interesting considering Aldo has said that he felt the only way he’d get a rematch with McGregor was if it was a short notice fight, yet he wasn’t ready when one presented itself.

What a joke! Somebody SCURRRRRED

All that talk about taking a rematch anywhere, anytime, and he turns it down! He don't want none of McGregor

EDIT: And here's the proof.

Here it is boys, straight from Pederneiras' mouth in an article from Jan 16th, over a month ago.

“That’s what he wants the most. He wants it so much that he’s already training conditioning, jiu-jitsu and boxing. Nothing too excessive, of course, but he wants to stay in shape. He’s not lazy. He will always be expecting that chance to get the fight on short notice, otherwise he might not get another chance. He’s got that notion in his mind so he’s staying active.”

So what happened there? Already training conditioning, jiu-jitsu and boxing you say? Want to stay in shape you say? Expecting to get to fight Conor on short notice, so you want to be ready because you might not get another chance, you say?

A little over a month later: Fight McGregor? On short notice??? Are you crazy??? Aldo's not in shape!!!

SMH lol

Scared? Not hardly, one Mcgregor wouldn't be able to drop weight for 145 and Aldo hasnt trained to fight at 155.

He'd be fighting another guy who hasn't fought at 155lbs either. Aldo should be at 155lb, he's been begging the UFC to let him move up to 155 for years, now he gets a golden opportunity to avenge his loss and he turns it down. McGangsta has put the fear of god in him, that's what's up!

Why is there three threads on this one topic? Just fragments the discussion.

Smart move by Aldos camp.

In all likelihood, if Aldo lost to Conor again he would never get another rematch after that.

May as well make your one rematch count and come in fully prepared. Not on a week and a half notice, after getting Ko'd, and at a different weight class.

Doesn't matter. If he did turn this fight down, he'll never have a rematch anyway. Might as well have taken a big payday and a chance to avenge that loss. Now he'll be lucky to get a spot on a fightpass undercard.

Aldo will never get a McGangsta rematch. Conor is moving on to bigger and better things at lightweight and beyond. He's left Aldo in the dust, there's no call for a rematch when you smash a guy in 13 seconds.

As fate would have it, he got an opportunity to avenge his loss but he turned it down, even though (for what I read) Aldo said he was training specifically to be the replacement if RDA dropped out.

Aldo/McGregor 2 is too much of a money maker for ufc not to make it.
I don't think taking this fight would be a big payday. The bigger money is waiting for the rematch when they have time to promote it.

I also read that Aldo was training for a rematch in case RDA dropped out. That was either a viscous rumor or Aldo's pants are on FIRE!! I'd bet the latter

Aldo JUST came off a no contact medical suspension. I mean, I get it. Take the gold aldo!

But that's a losing venture with all the pieces.

If he is on a 90 day no contact suspension how was he expecting to train, let alone fight?

I dunno, ask his trainer (see above) lol. Apparently he's been training since January because he EXPECTED to get a fight with McGregor on short notice.

Khabib is tough, undefeated and feared, but if you're looking for someone with name recognition, I'd say he hasn't really broken through like Diaz, Cowboy, Pettis, etc. Nate Diaz is my choice because even though we're less than 2 weeks out, you can take that curse-ridden tirade he went on and make a hell of a promo between him and Conor. Then maybe sweeten the deal even further by making it for the interim belt.

Seems to me like this thread was started to shit on Aldo a wee bit.
Haha I like Aldo... but when you're talking mad shit about getting a rematch... and you say you're training to stay in shape because you say you're expecting to get a short notice rematch.... and then that opportunity comes and you say "no, I'm not in shape I don't want the fight".... that shit looks bad!

If it has a bill, quacks and swims, it's probably a duck, and in this case I think all evidence points to a DUCK hahaha

Agreed and Khabib also has the Ferguson fight booked, so if Dana took him off of that then he has to find another opponent for Ferguson, ect ect, and Khabib doesn't really have the name value to justify that kind of juggling.

I don't think it's that cut and dry. It seems like you're saying that you think Aldo is afraid. I don't agree with that assessment if that is in fact what you mean.

Well this whole situation looks very bad for him. I guess we'll have to wait and see how he responds, because I think he's looking like a ducker right about now.
