Dave Oancea, better known as “Vegas Dave,” is again betting big on MMA, this time on UFC 196 co-headliner Miesha Tate.

The professional gambler just wagered $77,000 the onetime title challenger will win gold at Saturday’s pay-per-view event at MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.

“He just texted me earlier today,” Tate (17-5 MMA, 4-2 UFC) told MMAjunkie Radio. “He said, ‘I’m upping my bet to $77,000.’”

Oancea has a thing for MMA underdogs. He bet big on Holly Holm (10-0 MMA, 3-0 UFC) this past November at UFC 193, wagering $20,000 the former boxing champion would upset Ronda Rousey. When Holm knocked the MMA star with a head kick, he collected a cool $240,000.

Now, Holm is the betting favorite heading into her first title defense, and Oancea is going the other way.

The potential payout isn’t as sweet – Tate currently is a +250 underdog, meaning a $77,000 will net $192,500 in winnings. Holm, on the other hand, was at +900 for much of the buildup to the fight; Oancea claims he snagged a 12-1 line on the champ.

So far, none of Oancea’s adventures in MMA betting have topped his take on Kansas City’s World Series win – he made 26 bets between $500 and $25,000 and took home $2,457,200.

Yea and how many failed bets has he had?
That's the great thing about gamblers, they only tell you how much they won (often they include their innitial bet to up the number) but NEVER tell you how much they were/are down. My buddy would always tell me that he won 500 at the boat, but I'd find out later that he was down 500 before he got back even.

Should be a good match, but I don't think Miesha will win. I wish I had money to gamble freely with. I wish I had money at all. Goddamn wait for disability

It is possible Tate wins, I could see it happen. I'm afraid of it actually, cause I would hate to see Ronda get her belt back through Tate.

Good bet imo. Love the people acting like this is a bad bet. Meisha doesnt give up easily and has only been put out cold by kaitlyn young.

Totally true. I'm thinking a professional gambler like this guy is different, though. I'm not saying he's going to advertise his losses, but (1) word will get out anyway, at least when it comes to the big wagers and (2) since he's a professional, he doesn't have the same betting habits as your regular schmuck slumped at a 7-11 slot machine at 2 a.m. several nights a week.

There's only so much lying he could do and only so many bad results he could suffer before going broke and getting laughed out of the casinos.

As long as Miesha doesnt try to stand and wang with Holly, there is a good chance.
The thing about Meisha is her takedowns aren't better than Ronda's.

And Holly doesn't stick around in one spot for them to be effective.

I hope he's wrong, I've grown to love Holm as a person and fighter. I can't see Tate grinding it out for 5 rounds, maybe a 3 round fight (probably not), but not 5. Holm is strong, this will play heavily in her favor to keep this standing.
