Nate Diaz scored a highly impressive upset over Conor McGregor at UFC 196, in a bout that he took on extremely short notice. He made the most of his opportunity, and not only did he bag the biggest payday of his career, he could've also earned another UFC title shot.

And no, it's not a rematch against Rafael dos Anjos, who thoroughly beat Diaz in 2014. According to Dana White, his impressive win over the featherweight champion could net him a title shot in the division they competed at.

"You know what would make a lot of sense? This isn't the fight I'm making (now), I'm just saying, him and Robbie Lawler make a lot of sense," White told ESPN following the event. "His brother beat Robbie, who is now the world champion, and Nate became very very popular tonight."

"We'll see what happens, but for me to predict what one of the Diaz brothers are going to do, who knows?" White said with a laugh.

Use your Egg, BLAF.

Nick vs. Robbie, & a Nate vs. RDA rematch.

Nate was a respectable welter, but not a contender. His RDA fight makes me wonder if he fought injured.

We all know what happened with Nick & Robbie:

I don't wanna see Diaz vs RDA 2 at all, but at the same time I do wanna see him back down at 155 so....

soundoff71 @soundoff71 there were some issues and I believe he didn't train for that fight and was at odds with the UFC, but I don't see anything in his style to suggest he won't get dominated again.

Of all the fights that make the most sense, this one isn't on the list.

Nate beat a big featherweight in a fight that just happened to be at 170. The fight itself doesn't mean anything in the welterweight division, but Dana's gonna Dana.

This is the fight to make right here. So many story lines to sell. Nicks return, Robbie avenging a loss, Nick getting a title shot. That fight would pull HUGE numbers. Let Nate fight at 155...its really where he belongs.

This fight makes sense on many levels, IMHO, & I'd like to see it. Conor was supposed to fight RDA. Nate beat Conor in spectacular fashion. '55 is Nate's best weight class. Nate will have the casuals interested in this rematch just because he beat Conor. The Diaz brothers both do well in rematches. Have them fight at whatever card is available after Ferguson vs. Kabib. If Kabib hurts himself again, have Nate fight Ferg (THAT will be a crazy fight).

As for stylistic changes against RDA, a motivated Nate, with a training camp & different strategy could make a world of difference. He was ripped against Johnson, didn't get blanketed against a strong/tough wrestler like he has in the past.

Humz, I think current Robbie would maul him tbh. And WW has a lot of contenders already.

But what about... doing Nate vs GSP?

well I'm sure Shields can teach Nate a lot on how to outstrike GSP, but if you can't stop Rory throwing you around I don't see how he would stop GSP doing the same, or at least controlling him exactly like he did against Nick.

Robbie vs Nate makes sense, unless you're talking about MMA as a legit professional sport.

Maybe, but who knows how a returning GSP would look like. At least with Robbie we kinda know whats up.

Conor beats a FW and Dana gives him the LW title shot.

Nate beats a LW and Dana gives him the WW title shot.

o_O

Dana needs to slowdown on the belt fast tracking here.

calling it now, Nate beats Robbie.

here's what I wrote on another site.

Robbie's never called for a rematch with Nick, I could see him having to fight Nate screwing with his head a bit and then when Nate starts reminding him of his worst mma memry over and over agin is gonna eat away at his psyche. Robbie will try too hard to avenge his loss to Nick by proxy of Nate, overextend and get countered to high hell, he'll take it to the ground and get choked the F out.

yah I say do it.

Wtf? Is Dana on crack??! Nate beat a 145er at 170 catchweight and he gets a 170title shot!? Nate has so many matchups at 155, and that's his division. Such as

RDA rematch, would be awesome to see Nate motivated and in shape and face RDA.

Nurmegomedov, they have to settle what they started in WSOF. Always wondering about follow up of that brawl.

Pettis, they have to settle the beef and revenge Gil's loss

Alvarez, they have to settle the beef and revenge Gil's loss

EL CuCuy, just because it'll be awesome.

Fuck you Dana.

A 155er vs a 170er because.... popularity?

Suck a dick asshole.

You're like a desperate slut, chasing the next big thing because you hope it will give you satisfaction. All your hyped ponies are now dead.

Stop this Circus shit and let things fall into place naturally.

Nate beat the guy who was supposed to fight the champ for the 155 title.... Ipso facto, Nate now fights the 155 champ. Like a lot of you have said, this fight sells itself and solves a lot of problems... 1) Nate had a knee injury and barely trained for the first RDA fight.... So now they can have a no excuse rematch (providing both are injury free.... Nate wouldn't pull out of the fight anyways) 2) restores order in rankings (to an extent)... Nate is the #5 ranked LW and just beat your #1 LW contender in a fight where neither had to cut weight.... Neither fighter is a 170 lb fighter, but again, natural order is take out the top contender, fight for the title 3) it's the fight we all want to see.... RDA vs Nate for the title, Alvarez gets that winner, and Khabib vs Tony for the shot afterwards.

As for WW, that's such a log jam I'm not sure what to do there.... The Lawler/Condit rematch makes sense the most.... That being said, if GSP or Nick returned, I would have no problem with either of them getting a shot over all the others (Woodley, Brown, Thompson, Rory, Hector, Hendricks) because either one of them would be a big money fight

Hopefully this gets Nick to start fighting again.

Nate just passed him up in all aspects. Not that they are competing with each other, but Nate is the little brother and Nick should be taking fights ASAP too.

Nate should not fight @ 170 lbs. He should fight Khabib for a new belt @ 165 lbs. Nick should fight Lawler.

Rhino, nick fighting for a belt would make zero sense being as he is coming off of 3 straight losses and his last win was vs bj Penn in 2011.

Nate vs Robbie may happen. Dana may use that as Nate's punishment for winning last night. Robbie would smash Nate. He knows that. He is either considering it as punishment or just saying the most ridiculous thing he could think of to deflect attention away from Conor.

Nick would have a legit shot at beating Robbie again, but no way they make that fight. Nick hasn't been active and has been on the wrong side of some decisions. Dana can say he likes the Diaz bros, but in reality he wants to keep them far away from a title. They speak their mind, can have erratic behaviors, and won't toe the company line.
