Sad day. But the facts are I've injured my same knee seriously twice in the past 3 years. I can't afford to get this one fixed for a few months. I fight because I love it, but it doesn't make any sense to do. I'm part owner in a gym, and we're going to be expanding and adding more schools. I can be an amazing coach and not destroy my body any more and not put my family in turmoil

You can't afford to? How does that work? You have to save up money and then pay to have it fixed?

Sorry to hear :(

Damn, sorry to hear that Josh. Is this a hasty decision made out of frustration, or have you thought it thru and are 100% done? Either way, I'm confident you'll be successful regardless of the path you choose.

A mixture of hastiness but makes sense. I'm 20 years old and I have two horrible knees. In the last four years I've had so many injuries, from minor things like broken hands and noses to serious ones like tearing my meniscus. The fact is I'm 20 and my body is only going to get worse over time. With the state of the MMA world being what it is. Why should I spend an extra 20 hours a week on training myself for peanuts when I can focus on growing my business and coaching. None of the greatest coaches have been great fighters. Look at Jackson, Zahabi, Danaher etc. Fact is my body is only going to get worse. Why spend money I don't have to fix my knee to injure it again

Yea my insurance is a 6,000 deductible so I pay everything up to that. So I have to pay for an MRI (EXPENSIVE) and then either surgery or rehab (expensive)

Got to make the decision that's right for you. What did they say happened to the knee?

:( Injuries suck.

Wait, aren't you Canadian? Can't you go home for socialized medical care(like the rest of the civilized world)?

Everyone's body isn't built for the fight game. Same goes for any of the major sports. Not a slight, it is what it is. As you said, few of the great coaches ever made it to the top as players. Put your passion and knowledge into training others, your body will thank you later.

Sounds like you've come to terms with it, and are ready to move onto the next phase in life. Good for you dude. If coaching can give you that same gratification as fighting, then it totally makes sense.

Sorry to hear Josh but without us ever meeting you seem mature beyond your age. The majority of 20 year old guys fighting or not would default to the tuff guy and probably end up regretting it at 30 when they need help getting out of bed. If you genuinely feel this makes the most sense for you going forward then there's no shame in moving on to life's next chapter. You've already accomplished more than 90% of those interested in MMA, be proud of how far you've gone.

Just cause I mentally accepted it doesn't mean I like it haha. I'm depressed as shit. Special K leaves in a week on top of all this. I just always thought I'd have all these awesome stories to tell about fighting over seas and shit. I guess I'll have stories about having my fighters fighting around the world and traveling with them.

You gotta do what is right for you my man, and only you know your body & finances. I'm confident you will make the intelligent decision.

How do I resume my health care coverage when returning to Canada following a lengthy absence?
A three-month waiting period is usually applied before coverage is reinstated. For information on requirements and conditions for reinstating health insurance coverage, contact the Ministry of Health of the province or territory to which you intend to return.
3. Which provinces have a 3 month waiting period before I can get public health insurance?
Answer:

The provinces of British Columbia, Ontario, Quebec, and New Brunswick have a 3 month waiting period before you can get public health insurance. In all other provinces you can become insured immediately.

For the 3 month waiting period you can buy private health insurance. It is available through many major Canadian insurance companies.

The health care situation is the US is ridiculous. How many other first world countries are there where you can't get medical treatment if you can't afford it?

How is the job market up there? I think I could be talked into moving to Canada.
