Louis CK spends five minutes rationalizing CHILD MOLESTATION in SNL joke | Daily Mail Online
Has Louis CK finally gone too far? Outrage as controversial comedian spends five minutes rationalizing CHILD MOLESTATION in bizarre joke on SNL

By Mia De Graaf For Dailymail.com05:32 17 May 2015, updated 13:35 17 May 2015

  • Viewers confused and some outraged by opening monologue
  • Others applauded the joke as typical of his controversial humor
  • Louis CK mused that child molestation 'must be really good' because offenders risk 'worst life ever' in jail, compared abuse to eating sweets
  • It was sandwiched by jokes about race and the Middle East
Controversial comedian Louis CK left Saturday Night Live viewers confused and uncomfortable after a lengthy joke about child molestation.

Opening the last episode of the 40th season, he mused that the life of a child sex offender is so horrific that abusing young boys 'must be really good'.

He compared the 'addiction' to his love of Mounds bars, saying he would reluctantly give them up if he knew they could land him in jail for life - 'but they obviously don't taste as good as little boys'.

Too far? Louis CK's controversial joke about child molestation
The audience went quiet, the band behind him shook their heads, and it divided opinion on Twitter.

Laughing at the tense reaction, he then joked: 'That'll probably be the last joke I tell on this show'.

It came after a joke about 'mild racism' and another about the Middle East, in which he called Israel and Palestine 'selfish little bitches'.

One Twitter user wrote: 'SNL is making me feel strange and uncomfortable right now #confusion'.

Another said: 'Hoping victims of Child Molestation managed to miss the disgusting SNL monologue of #LouieCK #sodonewithim @nbcsnl #sexabusenotfunny.'

One wrote: 'Whole new level of bad taste.'

And another sent a tweet direct to NBC demanding an explanation, writing: 'Molestation/racism...REALLY...who on the staff gave the go ahead for THAT SNL monologue? Funny it was NOT! Offensive to many...yes!!!'

Author, professor and critic Dr Anthony Bradley, of New York's Kings College, wrote on Twitter: 'Sorry. Joking about child molestation is bad form. Very low moment for #LouisCK. 100% not funny in any form. 1 in 3 girls, 1 in 6 boys.'

He then tweeted NBC direct: 'Child molestation themed comedy with #LouisCK is a disappointing low. Would it be ok to joke about women being raped? Why kids?'

However, others applauded the joke, which is typical of Louis CK's controversial comedy.

'Kids, tune in!': Louis CK teases his season finale of SNL
One wrote: 'Louis CK should do every #SNL monologue from here on out. Whether he's hosting or not. That is if they let him do it again after tonight.'

And another said: 'If you thought that monologue was "over the line" I feel sorry for you ----get out more #SNL'

Louis CK has hosted SNL three times since 2012, and has been widely well-received.

Among the comedian's high profile sketches is one that confronts the taboo of 'The N Word' - in which he says 'n*****' and 'c***'.

True to form, his turn hosting Saturday Night Live was saturated with jokes about race and politics.

Closing the show, which featured Rihanna as guests performer, he also paid tribute to David Letterman, the legendary Late Show host who is retiring next week.

Let's all get offended together, clearly it's the way of the future!

Haha haha

I liked that just a few weeks ago everyone lost their shit about the ISIS skit. Then the school teacher bit.

Now this?
I appreciate SNL pissing people off lately.

lmfao. That was a great monologue. I like that stand-up comedy seems to be the voice against social justice warriors lately. No better platform for it really.

They're jokes.

I don't like racism or sexism but I still laugh at some racist and sexist jokes. Some people think that being offended gives them some sort of right. It doesn't.

Social justice warriors aren't the people offended, they are the people who think there is never a line you shouldn't cross. So they get pissed and take to the Internet when somebody says they should tone it down. They think Everybody should just shut the fuck up and roll with it. I wonder what would happen if the the crosshairs were on the ones who think there is no limit?

There are no sacred cows. No one MADE anyone watch SNL. Don't like it, change the channel, turn it off, do some pushups, bitch over the internet, be offended, wtf ever you need to do. That don't confront me none.

Louis CK did a bit about DUI seemingly glorifying it. I just turned it off. Do i hate the guy for it? Fuck no. I hate DUI. Does everyone but pedophiles hate child molestation? Fuck yes. Do people need to clamor about indecency? Probably not but i won't stop anyone from expressing something. I might ignore them though.

If something isn't ok to joke about, none of it should be. Lines of decency can be crossed, but fuck... It's a man trying to be entertaining. Win or lose that's all there is to it. A societal thickening of the skin is necessary if people want to adapt, evolve, and continue. Life's too short to be a silly bitch.

I respectfully disagree and think you have it mixed up.
Sure you do. Internet culture thinks they should be able to say or do most anything to everybody else and the people who have a problem with it are the ones with the problem. That's the new collective psychosis. Funny enough people claim they want to be more conservative....just not when it comes to who they want to poke at.

It's a comedian, not a politician up there saying these things. Imo people just want to be offended because the more things that offend them, the more progressive they are.

I'm not worried specifically about Louis CK. The problem is that any time anybody opens their pie hole everybody should consider it humor and shut the fuck up. It's Internet culture gone mad. You can't ever be offended even if you're called a bitch to your face. Internet trolls (former nerds in the 80's) have sufficiently bullied normal folks into taking it up the ass because they want the right to say anything. Laughable. Will never be me.

I think Patrice O'Neal said it best when he said to an angry Naomi Wolf that his sole job, his one concern, was to be funny. It's not his job to manage anyone's sensitivities. It's his job to be funny. Am I into rape jokes? Almost never. Although he destroys me with most of his material, a lot of CK's stuff about his ex wife and kids crosses lines that I wouldn't cross and don't find funny so much as insensitive and uncomfortable. Pedo jokes strike me as both revolting and a pathetic bid for edginess, so I avoid them.

That said? It's none of my business what you find funny and demanding that anyone stop laughing at what I dislike seems to me absurd, entitled, and futile.

There's a point to be made somewhere here about the inverse relationship between open discussion of foul behaviour even for laughs and its actual commission behind a front of benign, folksy jokes, ie Bill Cosby, but I'm not perceptive enough to put it together.

I do see your point to some extent though. Like I'm some kind of humourless militant naziwoman asshole because I think that FHRITP thing really is creepy and rapey.

Nope. The only thing that has changed is that former nerds now have a license to play offended because people say enough. Comedians aren't the problem, but everybody who has something controversial to say thinks they are being humorous. Nobody is telling these fools to shut the fuck up. Back in the day they would've been shoved in a locker.

So physically assaulting people over some words is ok in your book? Not sure I can get on board with that.

That's a pretty common sense approach.
