I also like it, but I'm a little... confused. Isn't there supposed to be a 9th movie after this one?

So? Last Jedi doesn't mean he dies or can't recruit again. And even if, Kylo can (and will imo) turn light again, and Rey could become one too. I think Rey will struggle with the dark side though and then they will prolly team up, maybe against Snoke, or the First Order in general, or some villain out of left field.

I actually would enjoy Luke to be a villain, but the way the last one ended kinda robbed my hope of that.

Or, Luke is the last Jedi and refuses to make anyone else one, but still teaches her in the way of the force. After all, force is force, no matter which side, or if any at all. The whole concept of Jedi and Sith is pretty weird anyway if you really think about it. Star Wars gets away with a lot of weird stuff, but we buy it anyway. :D

My first thought was that the title refers to Luke. He is the last of his kind and though he may or may not teach Rey, she will be something new and different.

But the fact the title font is red instead of the classic yellow I think is a teaser that it has to do with Snoke. Since Luke didn't receive the traditional Jedi training makes me think Snoke was at one point a Jedi and that he is the last Jedi.

At any rate, I'm stoked! It's nice to have new and exciting Star Wars to look forward to and talk about.
Even though it's targeted at a new generation of fans, there's still plenty for the old guard to cling to.

Didn't think in that direction yet, possible!
I figured Kylo was the one who betrayed Luke, but maybe its Snoke. And he has to be very powerful, because why else would Luke hide from him or not go after him? Kylo Ren isn't strong enough to beat Luke imo, yet tries to find him. If he went there alone he'd prolly just die.

But the time-jump was like 30 years or something right? A lot of possibilities as to who the head of the First Order is. I actually want him to be a new character though and not somebody we already saw or someone else related to the Skywalkers, unless its Luke himself, but that doesn't make sense really. Its been too much of a monarchy going on for me, if Rey is Luke's daughter, and Snoke her mother... urgh.
I remember in the books that I guess are now some alternate reality or something, he married and had kids with Mara Jade, who was a former Sith and a pupil of Palpatine, right?
But given the weirdness of Palpatine's plan in the prequels, I guess its not impossible a Sith Luke would come up with a weird plan too to have Rey find him and not the other way around.

All of this would be better though than Snoke just being a clone of someone...

Luke was training Kylo until he turned to the dark side but I think Kylo is hunting Skywalker for Snoke.

There's a theory that Snoke is Mace Windu.

I havent read many of the books. The old books aren't part of the star wars mythos anymore but they seem to be borrowing from them.

My guess is Rey is Ben Kenobi's granddaughter. I don't think she has any relation to the Skywalkers.

So, what do you guys think of Kylo's motivation by the way? He says he wants to finish what Vader started, which is what exactly though?

Anakin turned dark in order to save Padme, which failed. Afterwards, he really didn't have much reason to live on at all, especially not suffering like he was in his body & suit and being nothing more than a puppet for the Emperor. Revenge on Obi-Wan he got too.. so what else? Until emotions for his family made him turn on Palpatine.
In a way, you could say finishing what Vader started could also mean, fight the Sith Lord. But then again, Kylo was shown struggling, but clearly committing bad actions, so at least partly he definitely fell to the dark side.

But what else did Vader start that Kylo wants to finish? Killing all Jedi perhaps. But that really is what Palpatine started too.

Vader wanted to overthrow the Emperor. He wanted Luke to turn to the dark side, kill the Emperor and rule the galaxy with him.
So I guess total domination is Kylo's end game.

So you think his plan and reason to live was to find his kid(s) (Did he even know about them at that time? Why didn't he know Leia?), turn them, and then overthrow the Emperor? I figured this was rather reactive then..

There's only supposed to be two Sith. I think getting out from under the Emperor was always the main goal but having Luke with him was reactive.
I don't think Leia ever factored into it because Luke was the chosen one.

Yes, but Snoke could have been like a friend for Luke or something, no?

Well, Luke already was deemed the last Jedi when Yoda died.

There's a theory that Snoke is Mace Windu.
Heard that too and I find it rather ridiculous, to be honest.

My guess is Rey is Ben Kenobi's granddaughter. I don't think she has any relation to the Skywalkers.
What are the signs for this?
I rather would have her be a virgin birth like Anakin.

The rule of two is an ancient Sith principle that was sometimes used and sometimes not.., and oftentimes lead to em being on the brink of destruction.
I don't think Palpatine subscribed to it. At least he didn't in the expanded universe. He had much more Sith around him than just Vader.
In the movies too he had Dooku and the horny guy at the very least.

To be more precise, I think Palpatine wanted to live forever and be the only Dark Lord forever.

There is no need in his view to train a single pupil that inevitably is going to be strong enough to kill him and take another single pupil of his own, to restart the cycle. That surely isn't what he wanted, and definitely not what he planned with Luke and Vader. He wanted puppets to use to his cause and stay in power.

I read the Bane-books, so I know about that principle at least. :D And I wouldn't say Palpatine follows it.

snoke is a mother? i thought snoke was a dude...
We haven't seen real Snoke yet, only a hologram obviously changed in appearance. Voice can easily be changed too.
So who knows. I don't think its impossible its a woman.

Absolutely true, but the font color, and the title imply finality.

I first heard/saw the title at work yesterday and every single person who saw it (including a couple big Star Wars fans) were confused by it. "I thought there was supposed to be 3?" Was uttered by almost everyone.

Absolutely Sidious was a bastard. I don't think any Sith apprentices knew about each other.
My point was Vader was about himself and Luke. Always two.

In the books Vader had several secret apprentices too.. breaking that rule. In the movies of course you don't see it.
As I said its a rule that is sometimes followed but shouldn't be taken so seriously. Sidious and Vader are at best pretenders in that regard.
Logically both Vader and Palpatine died at the end of the OT, so the Sith would have been completely wiped out. A big flaw in the system if you ask me. So lets see how they conjure up Snoke in that environment.

But really I have no idea what is canon or legends or whatever. I guess they can go any way they chose. Just when he uttered those words I asked myself, what does he mean?

Another question I have is, Anakin was supposed to bring balance to the force. And the Jedi thought that meant him being 'good', how exactly?
The Jedi were huge and powerful and didn't even believe there were any Sith around, at least not in the open. So what kind of balance did they hope for? :D

Didn't he kinda bring balance by having Yoda/Obi (+ Luke) vs Sidious/Vader, to make it simple?

The movies, tv shows and recent books are canon. All the old expanded universe is legends.
