Didn't Conor say he wouldn't fight Khabib because he's unreliable? I thought it was rhetoric at the time, but now it looks like he had a good point.

Got up this morning and was hoping this fight being cancelled was all a bad dream. NOPE!
After having time to think on this for a while I understand why Tony didn't want to fight a replacement. If he did he may never get the chance to fight Khabib again, at least it would push the fight even farther away. By declining a replacement it makes it easier for the UFC to reschedule this fight in the near future. Personally I think it was the path for Tony to take.
The Eagle on the other hand I have lost much respect for. Yes fighters can have issues making weight and "$&it Happens", however, Khabib should have realized the cut was going badly and just admitted he wasn't going to make weight to the UFC before getting so ill he had to be hospitalized. By talking with the UFC brass, telling them the situation, possibly the fight still could of happened. Perhaps at a catchweight or they could have given Tony the option of having Khabib coming in over the limit. That way if Tony won, he'd still get the belt and next title shot. If Khabib had of won, no belt but the chance of a title shot. Many fighters have done this, they know their bodies and it's limits. Khabib was not thinking of his fans, the UFC, the sport (another blemish on weight cutting) or his health by trying to make the limit and pushing himself to far... This fight could have been saved, albiet with no chance of Khabib getting the belt, but he could have got the win and given the fans what they have been patiently waiting for.

Yes it was founded on that notion that anyone can take on anyone but look where that got them...Feds bitching enough to put them in a "dark era". We have rules for a reason. They just need to be tweaked here and there to make it better moving forward. No need to move backwards and devolve.
